Serotonin may offer less immediate pleasures than Twenty One, but it promises to reward repeated listening.
-
There are many more moments of magic on this triumphant third album. Among them, The Girl is Gone proves Mystery Jets can do melancholy in as confident a manner as they do happiness.
-
At its best, Serotonin dresses nostalgia in neatly pressed new clothes; it's easy to catch yourself singing along as if you'd known some of these songs for half of your life.
-
The Eel Pie Islanders' sees the band mature as songwriters, which should attract the mainstream attention that's so overdue them.
-
Serotonin makes its intentions pretty clear – it is a pop record, it has themes, it knows where it wants to go, it knows what it wants to do. It does those things – it is melodic.

Hot PressA mesmerising, love-lorn, tear-soaked magical mystery-Jet tour.
-
Even when they're singing about a relatively maudlin subject, the group sound positive and energetic, their brand of pop given a healthy, summery twist.
-
While it's a wiser and more weathered quintet that greets us in 2010, the Londoners return not bruised or broken but infinitely more polished and positively bursting with ideas, passion and optimism.
-
What's really impressive, though, is how all the nods to glam rock, shoegazer, new wave and 80s indie rock blend together to produce a sound that's maddeningly familiar but completely unique.
-
Luckily, you don't have to write genius lyrics to make reliable, stadium-ready rock. The tics of weirdness that made this band so initially affable may be gone, but they're now a cut-rate pop act instead. Nothing wrong with that.

This is Mystery Jets at their finest: enchanting, infectious indie pop with a huge heart.
