"Sons of " would fit comfortably anywhere in jon Hopkins discography. It's a hypnotic pulse of the nearly 8min opener "a ghost at noon" is an immersive lull that scatters into a screech before fading into the popping club 808's of the 10min "crossing at the shallow " . It's an alien sonic game of synths and hi hats and goes through so many changes it might as well been a movement of tracks.

Overall, the most appealing thing about Sons Of is that contains depths that are maybe not immediately apparent. It rewards repeated listens, and careful ones at that. Hopefully this duo collaboration is merely the first of many.

Such clear chemistry and inspired interplay will hopefully lead to future releases in the same vein. Anyone with a penchant for classic-sounding ambient electronica with a kosmische bent will find plenty to nod along to here.

The result is a sparkling 24-minute digital raga that builds to a tumultuous mid-point crescendo, before gliding elegantly out of the other side. Euphoric synth-pop that's smart and never po-faced. [Sep 2022, p.90]
