Generic southern rapper. This album has good moments but overall isn't great. For a rapper he's good, but in general, musically, he's weak.

The album should've been called A Day in the Life of YB, instead of S.O.C. His lyrics and conviction make you imagine the things he must have been doing before striking it rich. The honesty about his personal life is what grips you and makes you want to hear more. In all, the beat production is better than Banks's H.F.M

damn - why cant yall be objective abt this. its either haters or groupies that post. bottom line, the production here is good (shorty wanna ride, walk with me, let me in, thou shalt - are fire). buck has good delivery tho his rhymes are simplistic, def not as witty as banks. dudes subject matter never strays farther than 'hood life, but i guess u cant blame him. his biggest strength damn - why cant yall be objective abt this. its either haters or groupies that post. bottom line, the production here is good (shorty wanna ride, walk with me, let me in, thou shalt - are fire). buck has good delivery tho his rhymes are simplistic, def not as witty as banks. dudes subject matter never strays farther than 'hood life, but i guess u cant blame him. his biggest strength is conviction. when he says "my daddys a dope fiend and i dont really miss em (fuck!) / aint seen em in ten years and the niggas still livin" - the tone and pitch of his voice lets you know hes talkin sum real shit there. overall a solid album, worth your money. way better than current offerings by dipset, guerilla black, jin, and even (gasp) aftermath labelmate eminem Expand

Another G-Unit CD. To rake in more cash. Don't buy this. Get out of rap and listen to some rock music.

*Sigh*...It seems music is going downhill these days. First we have this Eminem Just Lose It single. And now we have 999 G-unit CDs. God. Listen to good music like progressive rock and Pink Floyd. Don't buy this garbage. G-unit have no talent. They just want these stupid teenager's money.

young buck has stepped up good. 50 and banks albums are generally good but this album is tight. every track is a club banger. 'thou shall' and 'prices on my head' are the tracks which 2 me are the best on there. banks' lazy drone on it is the downfall bcos when the track is bangin the tone deflates wen banks enters. buck is most definetly the grimiest of g-unit young buck has stepped up good. 50 and banks albums are generally good but this album is tight. every track is a club banger. In my honest opinion I believe Young Buck is the best GUnit member. Though he lacks the lyrical talent of Lloyd Banks, and the charisma and energy of 50 Cent, he is a much better rounded MC. His lyrics are a step up from 50 Cent, and he doesn't have the dope/stoned voice of Lloyd Banks that really ruin his already sh!tty choruses. The first track "I'm a Soldier" sounds like any song on the GUnit debut, which you know SUCKS!. After that my only complaint is "Taking Hits", "I'm a Soldier"", and "Many men". In Short, his delivery of his songs are so smooth they blend the weakest fillers atleast average songs, and the good songs... Platinum hits. "Let Me In" is the highlight of this album, and definatly my favorite, "Bang Bang" is another great song. While 50 Cent is an overated rapper, as is Lloyd Banks and a strict lyricalist. Young Buck has been underated his album has been out of the spotlight. Now go out there and buy this album. Expand

After listening to a number of sub par tracks after the decent first track, the album takes some unexpectedly brilliant turns after "Prices On MY Head." The production on the second half of the album makes this album definatly above average, and helps to eleviate Young bucks flow and lyrics!

This album is what i expected. Boring lyrical skills and repetative subjects "i sold crack, i'll shoot you... blah blah blah" nothing new. If you heard the g-unit beg for mercy, expect nothing new. lyriclly or production wise.

Laces the Unit's thugs-to-riches formula with chunks of the Dirty South. [Aug 2004, p.143]
  2. What makes it great is excellent producer and guest rapper choices, a tight track list with nearly perfect flow, and the fresh G-Unit meets crunk and Lil Jon sound that dominates the album.

Scarily single-minded in its depiction of a violent man coming of age. [Oct 2004, p.117]
