Minimalist indie rock drawing from folk and alternative, are the components from album by Yellow Ostrich - "Strange Land". An excellent example of the style presented on the disc is the first track "Elephant King". Next, we have only small deviations from it, such as post-punk "The Shakedown", or lethargic, "I Got No Time For You".

What Schaff's everyloner routine lacks in subtlety, it makes up in a certain fraught, occasionally uncomfortable relatability.

On "Wear Suits," the trio reveals it can pull off the measured uptown elegance of The Blue Nile, but otherwise, singer/guitarist Alex Schaff delights in scribbling over his songs, as his boyish vocals vacillate between preciousness and brattiness. [May 2012, p.84]

There are hints of a potentially great band on Strange Land, just not enough to sustain a full length.
