MatBJul 26, 2004One of the few CDs I have heard that is consistently fantastic start to finish. Team Boo rarely loses it's frantic, edgy energy, so fans of the vanilla will want to stay away. Fans of innovative, well-thought-out dance pop won't be able to take it out of their CD player.

AlexAOct 28, 2003few musicians today use their voices as brilliantly as this pair. they have such a wonderful ability to craft compact yet booty shaking indie rock. furthermore, they make you feel as though it is all right to smile and be happy amidst all messiness. a must listen!

JayDApr 24, 2006Yah, give Alex A the popmatter job that should come after that 3 out of 10 review.

CablesApr 18, 2006Wait. Am i reading that review from popmatters correctly? Does that even make sense? Wait... They don't do much that does make sense.

So Team Boo turns out to be a surprisingly respectable junior-year effort-- one that puts Mates of State in the small minority of indie-pop bands that don't fall under the one-album-and-out rule.
-
It's often a bit silly, always fun, and surprisingly inspired.

When they're on, Mates of State recall the better moments of fellow smilers Quasi or The Anniversary, and the rest of the time their friendly pop buzz is more harmless than irritating.
