Tend No Wounds sounds very much like a transitional record, one foot firmly planted in the tar pit of their sludge roots while the other steps forward into a more punk-influenced, high-energy hard rock mode, and this liminality leads to moments of awkwardness.

The raison d’etre here is warhammer shred, with little mercy and less restraint.

While by no means bad, is definitely more of a missing link for die-hard fans to get a taste of what's to come.

As a stopgap EP this might not be the best introduction to their brilliance. [27 Jul 2013, p.53]

Tend No Wounds might not be the best starting point for new listeners (that'd be Dial or Taste the Sin), but it should tide over fanboys until the next full-length.

Perhaps they have already hit their peak with their Relapse debut, Taste The Sin, a record that does not hold up after a few listens, needless to say, Tend No Wounds itself growing tired fairly quickly as well.
