These guys are the to the neo-80's "scene" (Interpol, British Sea Power, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, etc.) what Stone Temple Pilots were to the grunge "scene" of the early 90's -- bandwagon jumpers looking to cash in on a trend. STP managed to evolve and put together enough decent songs to fill a greatest hits album. The Bravery would be lucky to make it that far.

Although Honest Mistake and Unconditional are two of the catchiest songs 2005 has heard so far, the album as a whole is far from remarkable - and displays a laziness that one expects to hear at the end of a hot new musical movement, rather than the beginning.

Another band joins the overcrowded 80s-revival bandwagon. Enough already.

Nothing extraordinary - definitely not as good as the Killers album, 'Hot Fuss'.

Has some brilliantly catchy moments, but is let down by lack of progression and a "sameness'" vibe. Hightlights: A Honest Mistake, Unconditional, No Brakes Skip: Public Service Announcement, Tyrant

Well, a couple very catchy tracks that will be forgotton in a year or so; a bunch of background music that I already forgotton; and a couple of unlistenable tracks.

Despite the fact these guys have two potential hits in "An Honest Mistake" and "Unconditional", the amount of hype surrounding this band is completely unwarranted. This album is the most blatant style-over-substance effort in recent memory. Absent an ounce of genuine emotion, you are left with an insipid exercise in mediocrity. They definitely know their way around the early Duran catalog, not forgetting the requisite stops at New Order and the Psychedelic Furs. [Apr 2005, p.101]

It's bold, brash, trashy fun that will tempt Killers fans to fall in lust all over again. [19 Mar 2005, p.57]
  3. The Bravery do a jockier version of the New Wave competition, pumping the drums in straight-ahead tunes such as "An Honest Mistake" and "The Ring Song."
