It is pure artistic id, and after hearing it, it's possible to view Rossiter's entire body of work in a new light, gaining an appreciation for his grace, wit, and artistry.
  2. Jan 23, 2013
This is such a beautiful and heart rendering album, Randy Newman would be proud of these songs, Martin Rossitor deserves a reappraisal of one of the best songwriters of his generation.
  3. Nov 28, 2012
Things perk up on the lovely Where There Are Pixels and the choired-up I Must be Jesus but it's one for the fierce-hearted and, as such, highly recommended. [Dec 2012, p.111]
  4. Nov 28, 2012
It's a decidedly sparser backdrop for his erudite, torch-like confessionals. [Dec 2012, p.76]
  5. Nov 28, 2012
Rossiter's tremulous, torchy delivery plays to the gallery, but beautifully, touchingly and sometimes exhaustedly. [Dec 2012, p.86]
  6. Dec 7, 2012
A moody yet romantic triumph, The Defenestration Of Saint Martin is far better than anyone could hope to expect from a long-dormant Britpop survivor.
  7. Nov 26, 2012
Raving, romantic and graceful, it's what might happen if Britpop had gone to finishing school, and even includes a final guitar treat for anyone who tuned in the hope of another round of Olympian.
  8. Nov 29, 2012
An unlikely but often brilliant comeback.
  9. Nov 26, 2012
Despite the spare instrumentation, there's no sense of repetition or lack of variety, and these emotive, excellent songs stay with you. A late contender for album of the year.
  10. Nov 26, 2012
    A very welcome return.
  11. An album which should win prizes (but won't), and hearts (and will).

The Defenestration Of Saint Martin is the best album of 2012 in my opinion. Deeply personal music that forces you to feel exactly what Martin was feeling when he wrote each of these finely crafted songs. Full Review »

Beautiful collection of sparse songs sung with beautiful heartfelt voice. Album of the Year for me. If you love Gene you will surely love this album, but if you never listen to them you will love this too. Full Review »
