Despite the spare instrumentation, there's no sense of repetition or lack of variety, and these emotive, excellent songs stay with you. A late contender for album of the year.

An unlikely but often brilliant comeback.

This is such a beautiful and heart rendering album, Randy Newman would be proud of these songs, Martin Rossitor deserves a reappraisal of one of the best songwriters of his generation.

A moody yet romantic triumph, The Defenestration Of Saint Martin is far better than anyone could hope to expect from a long-dormant Britpop survivor.

  1. Beautiful collection of sparse songs sung with beautiful heartfelt voice. Album of the Year for me. If you love Gene you will surely love this album, but if you never listen to them you will love this too. Collapse
  2. The Defenestration Of Saint Martin is the best album of 2012 in my opinion. Deeply personal music that forces you to feel exactly what Martin was feeling when he wrote each of these finely crafted songs. Expand
