'The E.N.D.' album benefits from an amazing production. At the first listening we could think will.i.am has done an immeasurable work here, but I would rather point out apl.de.ap's part. And it works out well for them ! Fergie's voice is smartly used and brings more depth or energy to this album. Her voice is clealry complementary to will.i.am's dragging voice. She can be powerful (as in 'Now Generation' or in 'Missing You'), she can also rap (as in 'Electric City') or even be really melodious (as in 'Meet Me Halfway' or in 'Alive').
This Black Eyed Peas' album oozes their influences. We can, for example, ear an interpolation of 'What?' from A Tribe Called Quest in 'Rockin To the Beat'. I still think 'The E.N.D' misses one or more featurings with talented artists, as they chose to do so in 'Monkey Business'. No need to speak about lyrics because we all unfortunately know they are at 'Black Eyed Peas' level... Some songs just remain in mainstream pop register.
Its accessibility, production, frenzied tempos and the voices of will.i.am and Fergie make 'The E.N.D.' an album that has not aged and will remain in the archives of pop culture.

Clunky and overproduced. Fergie sounds out of tune on most tracks (the abysmal 'Meet Me Half Way'), and yet autotune is overused on most tracks?
'Boom Boom Pow' and 'Rock That Body' are two storming tracks and just about save the album from being a total disaster.

First, let's start out with the pros: will.i.am is a great producer and he's actually good experimenting with electronic, too - if he could try to be a bit less repetitive with his production I probably would have given this a 6. They also make a somewhat failed but successful at the same time attempt to be original - they obviously wanted to catch on to what was trending on the charts, but with (very) few new twists. The only thing I can see sticking out about this album's originality include the whole "energy" concept. And also, their lyricism needs some HUGE improvement. Overall, this is honestly a mixed effort - they should have tried harder (not that they've ever been great). Grade: C. Highlight: "Imma Be". Worst song: "Party All the Time" Expand

Will.i.am makes the jump from traditional hip hop to electronic sound; and he excels. The E.N.D is their best yeat. The rhymes aren't dull and the beats are fresh. Although many faithful are upset on the jump, this still finishes with a good feeling left in you.

The lyrics were pretty dumb, but some of the beats from songs such as "Rock That Body" and "Boom Boom Pow" were very good. The band's talent is minimal, where they use vocal processing to cover up their otherwise mediocre voices.

An album that prooves "moving with the times" can be taken to the extreme, not by changing your sound or genre but by suddenly loosing all manor of talent. Bad rapping, bad lyrics and bad auto tuning do not make for a good purchase. Save your money and just buy 'Rock Your Body' and 'Boom Boom Pow', the best of a simply awful collection.

NEGATIVE - The lyrics - lets begin with those. Without selecting certain tracks (I Gotta Feeling *cough* *cough*) i feel they thought ''lets just write lyrics that even the slowest of people will remember'', i mean honestly it's like rap for children, to me they have lost all respect within the hip hop genre and have converted totally to pop, and not in a good way. Another problem i have with this album is the vocals, i know people complain about auto-tuning, but sometimes it's an essential. Fergie has a good voice, there is no question about that, so why did they decide not to use it ? And lastly - who let them get their hands on whatever god awful equipment they decided to use to mix ? It's like they went insane, like a day out to try out new sounds.
OVERALL - An overstep. Trying to hard. All went wrong. The Energy Never Dies ? Yes it does, or did...a long time ago.

  1. The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) is a mess of pop/dance/rap crossover.
  2. Group mastermind will.i.am's attempt at social commentary on 'Now Generation' comes off more like an ''I just got DSL!'' laundry list. But when the group's glitchy future-funk beats sync up with Fergie's unabashedly feminine melodies, as on the sweetly insidious 'Meet Me Halfway,' they find pure Top 40 nirvana.
  3. Most of The E.N.D. doesn't ask too much from those fans. Its more substantive musical and thematic statements are interrupted by many others showing the Peas' deep, deep commitment to a good party.
