  • Summary: The R&B singer's second album is laced with spoken-word interludes. 50 Cent, Lil Jon, and Chamillionaire lend a hand.

  1. The dance songs are rugged and terrific, but eventually the tempos slow and the album drags.

Another terrific collection, tacking a stylish course between Jam and Lewis, Zapp and raving crunk. [May 2007, p.88]
  3. The ballads mostly come at the end, and they’re all pretty not-so-hot.
  4. Ciara is no Beyoncé yet, but a song as good as Like a Boy, a flashback to Destiny's Child at their exhilarating peak, suggests that she one day might be. Evolution allowing.
  5. It sounds like the producers are all competing to drum up the best variation on Ciara's patented Crunk N' B theme.
  6. Billboard

Songs such as the Rodney Jerkins-produced "Make It Last Forever" and "Get Up"... are surefire club hits, although such ballads as "It's Over" tend to fall flat. [9 Dec 2006]

    It's a mixed bag. [Jan 2007, p.112]

Ciara's The Evolution doesn't show a ton of improvement as it promises, but it did in fact meet my expectations. The R&B part of Ciara's The Evolution doesn't show a ton of improvement as it promises, but it did in fact meet my expectations. The R&B part of this CD was better than the R&B on Goodies, but Ciara still doesn't have the vocal ability to make them shine the most they can. Expand

Besides two or three songs, the cd is horrible. I listened to it once all the way through and could hardly tell when a new song was on. Besides two or three songs, the cd is horrible. I listened to it once all the way through and could hardly tell when a new song was on. Why?...Because all the beats are the same. It just drags on and on and on and on. Ciaras' "singing" style fits in with todays "singers" though, you know?...the Fergies, Gwen Stefani, Cassie, and Pussycat Dolls of the world. Expand
