Albums like these always have to strike a careful balance between mimicking the original and killing the spirit of the original, but it's a balance that The Flip Is Another Honey is able to find quite comfortably.
  2. 70
The Flip isn't a flawless effort; "Boy + Angel" and a few others lack punch. But updates to tracks like Cheap Trick's "Southern Girls" and Thin Lizzy's "Running Back" shine.

The album is at its best when Doughty allows himself to stray from his source material.

Doughty is savvy enough to make this disparate collection into a cohesive album, while putting his signature spin on each track.
  5. 60
There is something here for almost everyone making this a unique if inconsistently satisfying glance into the mind of one of pop's most fascinating and under-appreciated artists.

The quality zigzags, but Doughty maintains an agreeably impish spirit. [Mar 2013, p.70]
