Entertainment WeeklyDec 30, 2013Grohl can bestow headbanging muscle and arena-sized scope on this four-track EP without belying Brown's bluesy, twangy roots. [20 Dec 2013, p.60]

Dec 30, 2013In addition to producing the set with an ear for warmth, Grohl plays drums on “Let It Rain” which definitely gives the band some extra snap. And the group’s signature harmonies are lush throughout. Given the title, we look forward to a possible “Vol. 2.”

Dec 30, 2013Mr. Brown’s voice, which lacks power and nuance, and lays even flatter the goopier the lyric. That liability becomes even clearer as the musicianship around him elevates, not just by his band members, but also guests, like Mr. Grohl on drums, or Oteil Burbridge (of the reconstituted Allman Brothers Band) on bass. But the gifts Mr. Brown receives here are plenty, and he has spun gold from far less.
