The Private World of Paradise [is] clearly one of the best albums of this young year so far.

Somehow they’ve managed to become both more accessible and more unique.

The Private World Of Paradise does have a somewhat rustic, indie-rock feel, though augmented with a greater wealth of instrumentation. [No. 107, p.61]

Everything here is painted in varying shades of gloom and lit by flickering candle flame, but every now and then, illuminates something quite gorgeous.

"Groovy" is the word to describe it. Wake Owl had me eagerly waiting for a full length after the release of their EP in 2013, and man did they"Groovy" is the word to describe it. Wake Owl had me eagerly waiting for a full length after the release of their EP in 2013, and man did they deliver. The release of of the single "Candy" made it obvious that they were heading in a bit of a different direction with their sound, an awesome surprise. I feel it was necessary to avoid being labeled to quickly as folk rock or even country since their EP had a bit of that vibe going on. This record shows their versatility as musicians and even as a young band, they present themselves skillfully. Colyn Cameron, shared that the untitled track on the record actually doesn't have any permanent lyrics as he changes them night to night when he performs the song live. I find it beautiful that the song intentionally has room for improvisation or even emotion. After listening to this record thoroughly, I can't even pick any favorite tracks cause ill end up naming them all. However, I can easily say that the record as a whole is going to be one of my favorites of this year. Expand
