The Betas were a formidable live band, and the radio session tracks here are as good as, and sometimes better than, their studio counterparts. There’s little in the way of actual rarities, though.

The Regal Years does a thorough job of not just compiling the Beta Band's recorded legacy, but underscoring the real reason why they're missed--it’s not just for the music they left behind, but for the infinite possibilities within it that had yet to be explored.

The innate beauty of The Beta Band [is] unfulfilled potential aligned to a stubbornness that would never betray artistic ideals; a punch in the guts followed by a raspberry in the face.

Brush off the buzzing novelty, though, and there is much to admire. [Nov 2013, p.118]

Long term fans probably won't need to get this, but those who don't know much about the Beta Band won't spend their money on anything betterLong term fans probably won't need to get this, but those who don't know much about the Beta Band won't spend their money on anything better this year. The Beta Band were so choc-full of ideas some came off, some nearly hit the spot. It's just so infectious not to love though very nearly the prefect band. If they'd nailed some songs that nearly made it, they would have been THE perfect band. Collapse

I'll be brief. All the material of one of the most underrated bands in music history in one pack. Simply perfect.
