Lacking any of the imagination of previous albums, The World We Left Behind feels brilliantly disappointing, almost to the point of undoing the good work that came before rather than just standing on its own as a weak album.

That air of obligation presides during The World We Left Behind, a nine-track slog.

The World We Left Behind is, on a purely artistic level, the worst album released under the Nachtmystium banner. The major issue is that it lacks the creativity, the devilish glint, and the poisonous confidence that Judd previously injected (no pun intended) into Nachtmystium, his personal vehicle for experimentation and excess.

Comparisms with bands previous works is where critics get it wrong most times. On it's own, the merits of this CD is worth repeat listens . One of the best metal albums of the year.
