  • Summary: 'Demo' is the self-produced debut for British rapper Derek DeSafo.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 10 out of 11
  2. Negative: 0 out of 11
  1. He exudes a level of charisma matched only by Ludacris on a global scale.
  2. There are minor moments when Demo's slight r&b hooks miss and when Sway deviates too far from his good-natured strengths, but the lion's share is ace-- thoughtful but not pedantic, funny but not stupid, sincere but not treacly, realistic but not boring.
  3. Spin

An eclectic vanguard sound. [Jul 2006, p.88]
  4. This will end up flying off the shelves for sure.
  5. New Musical Express (NME)
    70
Overloaded with laugh-out-loud lyrical gobbets, intelligent production and tunes that straddle commerciality and the street. [28 Jan 2006, p.34]
  6. There's no denying Sway's dazzling verbal chops and it's not just the speed and flow of his delivery that impresses.... His musical backdrops, however, are very much less adventurous and anyone looking to "This Is My Demo" for grime's trademark, darkly paranoid, tacheometric beats will be disappointed.
  7. There's a feeling that This Is My Demo is just geared too much towards the commercial audience.

Sway IS NOT the saviour of the UK urban music But he is a funny likeable rapper/MC that can combine one liners with in depth thoughts on Sway IS NOT the saviour of the UK urban music But he is a funny likeable rapper/MC that can combine one liners with in depth thoughts on topical issues about himself and the world around him. Get past his changes in delivery styles and there is a lot that is left to be liked on this solid debut One of the best albums by a UK hip hop artist for a long time and will probably hold its own as being one of the better records of this year - one can only see this guy moving on to bigger things. Look out for: His alter Ghanian -ego on the album dubbed "Charlie Boy" The break with the flow of the album in the shocking "Pretty Ugly Husband" And the amazing 3rd verse on "Hype Boys" - it was originally found on his mixtapes!
