  1. Here we have an artist who's been making music for nearly 25 years and this album sounds fresh and new. This album is, by far, the best record I've heard this year.
  2. The Wire

A defining album that should lift her out of the 'sounds like' territory. [#248, p.65]
  3. One of her most assured and intimate records to date.
  4. Her voice has matured to a fine saw-toothed rasp, and carries with it the echoes of every hard minute through which she's lived.
  5. Zedek is still shrouded in her aesthetic darkness, is still hungry, still driven; her music is still driven by the same ghosts that've haunted her throughout her career.
  6. The cumulative effect of Trust Not is a wearying one.
  7. Like Richard Buckner, Zedek holds the amazing capacity to make the saddest stuff compelling, even heartening.
