Their mastery of modern pop sounds, ability to craft melodies that have a timeless quality, and the real connection they provide to people who want their frivolous pop music to have some depth and meaning, is impressive.

    Yes, it’s over-AutoTuned, and the ballads are still rubbish. But this somehow smooshes Cut Copy, ELO and Daft Punk into a honeyed mess that leaves you licking the bowl and twitching for more.

    The ecological concept behind the album doesn’t really assert itself among the dreamy backdrops. But it also means we get some superbly written pop/indie hybrids, of which the pick are Way to Go and First Crush, both of which evoke coastal drives, each sumptuous chorus sliding into place like the shifting of gears in a luxury car.

    The dangers of crafting intricate visual and musical landscapes, as is the tradition with Empire of the Sun, are exposed with Two Vines. Getting it right is so rewarding, but it's a daunting task to replicate such a vision on each track. When they fly, they soar. But when their artistic façade fractures, the cracks are just too glaring.

    Steele would surf in the morning and retreat to the studio later on. It’s the kind of idyllic setting where days simply just pass by. Unfortunately, too many of the tracks on Two Vines do exactly the same.

Desde el primer track "Before" hasta "Welcome To My Life " se respira una energía diferente, algo como un sentimiento de verano, alegre, y motivador. Sin dudas, es uno de sus mejores trabajos hasta el momento, refrescando sonidos viejos e interactuando con nuevos.     As a constant fan of music, it's always an interesting experience whenever one of your favorite recording artists releases a new album. YouAs a constant fan of music, it's always an interesting experience whenever one of your favorite recording artists releases a new album. You find yourself wondering how they might have "matured as artists" or changed their sound to remain relevant with current trends. Empire Of The Sun is one of the rare artists out there that I personally hope never change because their sound is so original yet familiar at the same time, since their first album. This album successfully continues in delivering that same level of glitz and glam that fans have grown to love. It would be genuinely surprising if a fan of theirs did not wholly enjoy this album.

    Now, in saying all that, it is not to say that there aren't significant changes that do exist within this album. The first time the beat in the song "Friends" goes half-time lets the listener know that this album is going to be capable of setting a different mood, perhaps, than the previous albums. The same slower pace is later found throughout the song "Digital Life", giving the listener a relaxing break from the usual relentless hard pop beats EotS has become known for. There are also some digital vocal treatments ("There's No Need") as well as outright vocoder usage ("Ride") that have found themselves seamlessly added to the futuristic sounds found on this and previous albums. "Keystone" pleasantly puts an emphasis on its chunky synth bassline that also separates itself from the usual treble-heavy shimmering synths and guitars of their previous work.

    All in all, Two Vines is, without question, a fabulous addition to the Empire Of The Sun discography. A wholly original album from a wholly original artist that refuses to fit in with any other pop music that has ever been recorded.    … Expand
