The combination of crypto-goth moodiness--nods to Bauhaus but especially to Will Sergeant's work with Echo & the Bunnymen are omnipresent--and an older kind of drama, reaching back to Phil Spector's productions and Roy Orbison's mini-operas, recombines throughout on a remarkable series of songs.

Unlike its meandering, esoteric predecessor, the gorgeous Under the Pale Moon is an affair more focused in thought and sincere in song.

While less in your face than his work with the Fresh And Onlys, the album stands its ground and ends on a powerful note.

By blurring the lines of his influences, Wymond Miles has been able to create an album that is very much a reflection of his own vision and personality.

Under The Pale Moon pays homage to the pasty romantics of '80s pop, the dramatic crooners of years further past, the intriguingly depraved icons of post-punk, and several others without sounding like a pastiche or a mere exercise in genre tourism.

Miles offers some reasons to persevere--if only to enjoy the comfort of clever, heartfelt pop music.

Under the Pale Moon carries an enormous amount of emotional and existential weight, yet it doesn't sound like the process of acting on impulses. If anything, it exhibits the fine essence of song craft, containing each song's individual mood against different echoes of similar themes in songs both before and after.

Wymond Miles has just released his debut album "Under The Pale Moon", which is maintained in the alternative, a bit "heavy" sounding climate.Wymond Miles has just released his debut album "Under The Pale Moon", which is maintained in the alternative, a bit "heavy" sounding climate. Guitarist of the Fresh & Onlys through using suppressed filters gave songs like "Strange Desire" and "Pale Moon" - on which is indeed seen a characteristic to the album, especially those guitar & bass instrumental parts' emphasis - a bit mysterious mood of the '80s alluding inter alia the activities of The Smiths.
