It is perfectly sequenced, mysterious and moody. For a debut album, the fully-formed nature of their songwriting, sublime pacing and monolithically tasteful atmosphere is remarkable.

This isn’t their first release, but it’s no doubt their best so far, a fully realized space of shimmering notes and subtle signs toward a masterful production and shared creative mindset of defying expectation.

With just a few more jolts, a few more unexpected twists and turns, Coolen and Scholte would have had something truly special on their hands. But even without them, Weval is a hushed delight.

This debut album from Weval duo is a pleasant surprise. We can feel this beginning to be uncertain, doubtful, searching a bit for oneself. ButThis debut album from Weval duo is a pleasant surprise. We can feel this beginning to be uncertain, doubtful, searching a bit for oneself. But it also is what makes it so touching. It fuses genres and blends them in a both chaotic and highly structured way. It is rock, it is electro, it is raw, it is soft. They managed to brought me into their mystic universe.
In a way there is nothing magnificent in this project, because it is all subtle, whispering and weirdly distant. Yet the instruments sound very close, very present : these last ones are the mattress while the vocals are our shared dream.
