  1. It would have been nice to lift the haze with an uptempo track or two, but at only ten songs and 37 minutes, the album never drags. It is a rare reinvention that comes across as well as this.
  2. Winds Take No Shape is a great album if you like soft, catchy eclectic pop/folk music with smoky serious beautiful vocals and lots of eighties-like effects.

Winds isn't without charm, but it feels like the work of a different group. [#64, p.84]
  4. Winds Take No Shape seems to be the response to critics who called for more depth and less of the wide-eyed cuteness rampant on their self-titled debut. Their music is still lighter-than-air, but a newfound strain of wistfulness brings it closer to earth.
  5. It is a masterful effort, taking the most memorable elements of their past work and alchemically changing it to something completely new but no less great for the difference.
  6. Q Magazine

You might not easily hum its tunes, but you can often salute its good taste. [Oct 2004, p.121]
  7. Winds Take No Shape's compositions are not as varied as their debut, but it's a more atmospheric, cohesive and significant work because of it.
  8. Everything on Winds Take No Shape is done with such mechanic precision that there’s little room for any sparks to ignite this mythic fire.
  9. Uncut
    80
You could praise individual moments... but it's the overall weave, the daydreamy drift, that impresses. A 40-minute swoon of a record. [Jul 2004, p.112]
  10. Under The Radar
    80
The band has evolved, as all great bands should, by expanding their style and weaving different elements and moods into their music, resulting in a darker and more serious pop sound. [#7]

The melodies on this effort from Call And Response are sing along good, and after a few listens you will be doing just that. Highly recommended. Full Review »
