LeroyBYFeb 3, 20048This album is very honest lyrically. It's very musically simple, but if you're an indie rock fan you may or may not like this CD. It is most definitly nit happy, but I personally strongly recommend the album. Listen to the lyrics and enjoy the mussic

ZackSFeb 8, 200810I wanted so badly to give it a 9 based on the title track, which is slow and somewhat sludgy, but damned if I don't just keep coming back to this one time and time again. It's by far my favorite, exploring themes of religion, murder, relationships, family, and salvation in the twisted, quixotic way that only Dave Bazan can. This and Control are just unbeatable for me.

41Winners Never Quit plugs along on two gears-- the "ballad" and the "rocker." The ballads rely on obvious signifiers like acoustic guitars, brushed cymbals, and pianos. Moody!

80It's all very precious stuff, sounding like some of Sebadoh's best material. Kids who've eaten up the whole indie-rock thing thus far will go bananas over Pedro the Lion.

An interesting album, spooky in spots, but other than the terrific "Slow and Steady," this one's a curiosity.
