All in all, 9th Dawn III is a solid RPG adventure, with all the side activities and exploration you could ask for. While the combat difficulty is sometimes poorly balanced, the grind to improve has an almost addictive quality that kept me coming back for more. The visual style, a throwback to a bygone era of open world games, was used well to keep the visuals both simple and exciting. By putting together some of the best parts of hit games, 9th Dawn III succeeds in breaking new ground while tapping into nostalgia for classics.
There’s much to love in 9th Dawn III: Shadow of Erthil but it requires such an investment and patience from the player in order to pay off that many won’t push through to see the game’s best moments. The plot could have been tightened up, the presentation will be divisive and the combat lacks meaningful depth but the game world and activities it contains will have you busy for many, many hours if 9th Dawn III gets its hooks into you.
Huge open 2D world. Good character development & skill tree. Lots of exploration, dungeon crawling, loot, combat, monster catching, card gaming, crafting, cooking, fishing etc.. I took one look at the game trailer and bought it instantly. No regrets, totally addicting and great fun.
Explore dungeons, build your character, fish, tame monsters, craft stuff. Very chill, no nonsense, doesn't take itself seriously. I'm enjoying relaxing to this after a long day.
Very fun and unique game, there are not too many PS4 RPGs that mix the kind of features in the game the way that 9th Dawn does it, it's heavily influenced by some classics. Despite being simple compared to a todays game, if it gets you hooked you will be playing it for hundreds of hours. it has truly lot to offer . Former Non-Pvp Tibia player? This game it's an obligation.
While there may be a hidden gem buried beneath layers of utter garbage here, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game to any self-respecting owner of a PS4. 9th Dawn III might be acceptable as an above-average mobile game. However, its presentation resembles that of a 2000s Flash game on Newgrounds, of which there are many that do what they set out to do better than this game. Go play one of those instead.
