Too many role-playing games are let down by average or mediocre combat – Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen isn’t one of them. Unfortunately, role-playing games also demand great stories, and if you’re looking for a stronger main storyline, Dragon Dogma’s might not be up to your standards. Despite this, the hundreds of hours of content on offer, immense replayability and party customisation is amazing and PC owners can finally enjoy Capcom’s RPG gem with all the added visual bells-and-whistles options.
Maybe not for everyone, but if you're able to look past the poor cutscenes and story presentation you'll find that Dragon's Dogma has some of the best gameplay in any ARPG to date. The more I play the game the more I am able to look past its flaws, and at this point it's become one of my all time favorites.
Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a fun ARPG with a personality of its own!
If you want to buy it, you need a lot of time to really explore the game. It's not a mindless slasher, you will need to acknowledge numerous defeats before you truly become Arisen. But once you prove your indomitable will, the game will reward you with one of the most memorable gaming experiences ever. Highly recommended, if you have the time and determination.
Dragon's Dogma on PC takes away a few graphical frustrations we had on the console. The improvements the game got in Dark Arisen are still in there, which makes this one of the best and one of the most difficult niche RPG's on the market.
The gameplay is a healthy challenge. It’s good value for money. All in all it’s such a charming and engaging piece of work that as soon as I’ve wrapped this review up I’ll be straight back on it. So farewell.
Dragon's Dogma still holds up as a solid game in 2016. Capcom fixed many of the technical errors and glitches of the 2012 console release with patches, allowing a reliable framerate to go with your experience. The included difficulty modes raise the stakes of the challenge.
Overall, if you can get over the “janky”-ness of the visuals, then you
will definitely find an engrossing action RPG with some great systems.
The story is a bit bland, but can be made up for with strong combat,
excellent controls, an interesting class system, and a wide variety of
interesting enemies.
So Dragon's Dogma has worthwhile elements even if it feels dated, and even if I very nearly quit just before hitting the all-important twist that actually made the story worthwhile.
Dragon’s Dogma is a blend of ideas from different western RPGs combined with some traditional JRPG tropes. The focus of the game is a good combat system with 3 major classes that play differently enough, huge monsters that you can scale and a variety of switchable attacks. Sadly, all other aspects of the game appear dull in comparison and mostly reminded me of the original Neverwinter Nights campaign, and the world felt more like a set of locations for gameplay to happen in – it’s a far cry from what Bethesda’s and Witcher’s players are accustomed to. There are some well-directed moments in cutscenes, but most quests and dialogues are far from impressive. The pawn system isn’t much ahead of Skyrim’s companions, yet customizing your own pawn to fit combat needs of your character and recruiting other player’s pawns felt somewhat new.Overall, Dragon’s Dogma is a journey worth taking – with solid gameplay and a plot that manages to justify it. I was annoyed by constant backtracking due to a very limited fast-travel system and repeating battles, but I still enjoyed the game.

P.S. Must be played with a controller.
I really wanted to enjoy this game just because of the combat, but the game direction, leveling, and quest systems were infuriating and ruined the experience for me completely. I couldn't figured out how to actually get my character stronger, because even after getting what I thought was good gear and skills, I still seemed to do only average amounts of damage in combat. Game would be better for me if they just had a better progression, leveling, and gear system
