An example of what a good expansion can be. Adds depth and breadth to the original. Worth the 20 bucks, and more.
Crusade is everything that an expansion should be. It takes Galactic Civilizations III, sands off the rough edges, and adds new options for a deeper, more strategic experience. The new Citizens system offers more late-game options, espionage returns, planetary invasions are more tactical, and alongside the three new races, there's a new Civilization Builder letting you craft your own. If you're a GalCiv fan, it's an instant pick-up. If you're not, this might be the time to pick it up.

A TRUE MASTERPIECE BUT FALL SHORT TO BE A LEGENDARY.
This is a great game, not good; great, the tech tree has so much love just as the races and their playstyles and personalities, it has the best diplomacy system i ever seen. The AI in general is super responsive to your movements. And balancing economy, military and research can be a real challenge. Ideologies are also fun and ads to the game balancing between been consistent and do what its best.
2 things stops this one from complete greatness. First the campaing its crap. Its crap because its too small scale and short to reflect the needs **** made for civs developing over time on big maps.
The second it has a meta. One power Ancient its totally broke OP, beats all other by far also missiles with miniaturization beats absolutely anything, just stack power, speed and other mod on small hull to total supremacy. I beat on gifted by research without barely even making contact with other civs. investigated entire tech lines on one turn.

Ich hatte vorher noch nie von dieser Reihe gehört, nur die Civilization-Reihe kannte ich. Habe schon einige Strategiespiele, auch Echtzeitstrategie gespielt, war aber immer ein Freund von Rundenstrategie oder Managerspielen. Habe gerne Zeit für meine Züge, bevor der nächste Computerspieler dran ist.
Ich brauchte ein paar Stunden, bis ich das System verstanden habe - seitdem spiele ich Galactic Civilizations III immer wieder.
Es ist ein rundenbasierendes Strategiespiel (4X-Strategie) mit dem Fokus auf dem Erforschen des Weltalls, der Besiedelung von Planeten, dem Bau von Schiffen usw.
Es macht unheimlich viel Spaß, in dem Sandbox-Mode die Galaxie zu erforschen und die entdeckten Planeten auszubauen. Man kann sehr viel machen und ist immerzu beschäftigt, hat aber dazu ewig Zeit - denn erst der Klick auf "Turn" lässt den Gegner ran. Anschließend zeigt sich, ob deine Züge, wie beim Schach, sinnvoll oder blöd waren.
Die Kampagnen sind ganz nett, aber eigentlich nicht so gut wie das Sandkasten-Spiel, wo man sich selbst eine Galaxie erstellt. Ich dachte, dass mir eine Kampagne wichtig wäre, aber es stellte sich heraus, dass es genau wie bei "Age of Empires" einfach das "Neue Spiel" ist, was den Reiz ausmacht. Nur eben rundenbasiert.
Man kann Galaxien spielen, die so groß sind, dass man Wochen braucht, ein Spiel zu beenden. Oder kleine für ein paar Stunden, mittlere - für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei, denn es ist ein Sandkasten, in dem man die Parameter vorgibt und jedes Mal eine neue Galaxie spawnt. Die künstliche Intelligenz ist gut und es kann Situationen geben, in denen man sie als unfair schwer empfindet. Hat man lange gespielt, bekommt man aber den Dreh raus, wie man ganz gut bestehen kann. Zudem kann man einstellen, ob die Computergegner einen Vorsprung haben sollen oder nicht, ob sie intelligent agieren, aggressiv sind usw.
Dann sind Allianzen zu schmieden oder Feinde mit großen Flotten zu besiegen, die man selbst ausrüsten darf. Man kann seine kompletten Schiffe, wenn man mag, selbst gestalten, ihnen schnellere Antriebe und bessere Waffen geben, oder auf die Verteidigung größeren Wert legen. Die Möglichkeiten sind riesig und es gibt tolle Mods und Workshop-Objekte, die das Spielerlebnis weiter verbessern (warum nicht als Föderation mit den Vulkaniern die Klingonen verdreschen? Oder lieber die Vulkanier hintergehen?).
Ich habe für das Spiel, nachdem ich es ohne DLCs mehrere hundert Stunden gespielt habe, nachträglich alle DLCs in einem Paket erworben. Ich kann jedem empfehlen, das gleich zu machen, denn insbesondere der neuere DLC Crusade macht die künstliche Intelligenz und viele Spieloptionen besser. Zudem glaube ich, dass bei den Entwicklern der Fokus auf dem Spiel inkl. aller DLCs liegt - hier werden immer wieder kleine Verbesserungen rausgebracht. Die "Citizens" machen es einfach interessanter, sodass man unter anderem sogar Spione gegen den Computergegner schicken kann. Somit können später Technologien geklaut werden...
Auch ohne jeden Zusatzpack kann man viel Spaß haben, wie ich selbst ebenfalls hatte. Doch aufgrund der vielen gespielten Stunden fand ich es einfach gerechtfertigt, nochmal in die Tasche zu greifen - selbst wenn mir Crusade nicht gefallen hätte, wäre das Spiel sein Geld locker wert gewesen.
Für große Galaxien sollte man einen aktuellen Computer haben. Empfehle 4-Kern, SSD, 16 GB Ram und eine Mittelklasse-Grafikkarte. Hat man eine schwache CPU oder keine SSD, kommt bei größeren Karten wenig Freude auf. Ist eigentlich logisch, wenn tausende Sonnen, Planeten und Schiffe bei jedem Zug berechnet werden müssen.
Ich spiele die englische Version - die ist gut. Die deutsche ist voll von Fehlern und ich finde sie schrecklich.
Andere ähnliche Spiele haben entweder keinen rundenbasierenden Ablauf oder haben mir einfach nicht so gut gefallen. Ich habe noch Master of Orion ausprobiert, aber das hat mich nicht so gepackt wie dieses hier. Ähnliche weitere Spiele wären noch Stellaris, Distant Worlds Universe und Endless Space 2.
Es gibt noch viele weitere, die ähnlich sind, aber ich habe mich nach vielen Youtube-Videos für dieses entschieden und bereue es nicht.

Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade is not just another DLC; this feels like an expansion or maybe even a sequel to the original release. While this was one of my favorite games already, the improved depth and gameplay make the 20th or 30th hour just as fun and interesting as the first – and that is saying something. Stardock has made one of gaming’s best 4X strategy games even better, and this an essential purchase for series veterans and newcomers alike.
There’s an absolute wealth of fantastic new features in Crusade, every one of which turns the 4X genre on its head. Few companies would rip apart a shipped product and inject so many improvements, but the risk paid off big time. There are still a few balance issues to clean up, but Crusade manages to take something conservative and turn it into something revolutionary.
Galactic Civilization III: Crusade is the perfect expansion pack, with a lot of quality content for the base game fans.
Hitting the right notes of the genre, Galactic Civilization III: Crusade is a fun play and there is always the feeling of wanting to have just one more turn. The main issue holding it back from being truly great is the mid/late game grind of simply far too much stuff happening that needs to be dealt with. It will be interesting to see if the next major update fixes these issues, but fans of the genre will more than likely still enjoy this classic.
Ultimately, though, Crusade does what all good expansions should do – it takes a base game and improves upon it in significant ways. There is a great amount of new content here that will give existing players a fresh experience when returning to Galactic Civilizations III. It’s also competitively priced, which should entice newcomers as well. There are a few bugs and the rather large shadow of Stellaris that hang over this game, but all in all this is a really decent strategy title that should appeal to any fan of 4X gaming.
The game had a rough start but the Crusade expansion has hammered out a ton of the kinks. The creators are constantly putting out updates to balance and fix things. They listen to the community and get feedback. Its really turning into an amazing game and I'm excited to see where it ends up.

This DLC is a huge improvement over the base game. Many new feature are now available and well implement. Some minor adjustment needed to turn time like all 4x game. I have over 400 hours in the game right now and it's will kept climbing.
I do recommend acquiring this expansion. It's well worth it. Other smaller DLC are available to increase game experience has well.
The DEV are on steam and responding to comment and are working hard to adjust game experience to player preference.

Crusade is a great DLC that adds lots of new game features to GalCiv3. It's so good that really if you are going to pick up the base game you really should get the Crusade DLC as well for the best gameplay experience. Buggy on release it has taken some negative review flak but the devs were quick to release updates and continue to work on further updates as I write this. Have played two full games so far on small and medium maps and had a blast. They are working on a Ludicrous map size for those that like longer games that are epic in size. Reckon this will be my go-to 4x strategy game for some time to come. Recommended.

Too much and not enough at the same time. It changed the gameplay fundamentally - which is not advisable for a mere add-on. But then it did not put enough effort into the task of making the new elements work convincingly, giving them a useful meaning in every case and letting them work together with existing elements seamlessly. Feels like there has not been enough development time for too much work to be done.
