A bare-bones port can't sully one of the outstanding titles of this generation.

If you're not prepared to implement the tweaks and fixes mentioned in this review, then you should stay away from the game or hunt it down on its native consoles instead. If the previously mentioned 360 Review doesn't describe the sort of game you enjoy, then stay away altogether – not even bug fixes and gameplay tweaks will make this a game you like. But if you're willing to implement a couple fan-made patches and you crave a game that's beautiful, dark, cryptic, challenging and just plain unique in so many ways, grab this game and give it a go.

Underneath the port inadequacies is a masterful piece of design; intricate and drenched in woe. Dark Souls is infuriating, but well worth the investment in time and shattered patience.

This Prepare to Die Edition is far from what the game should have been on the PC, but it still is a masterpiece, a game designed for hardcore players.

Not often do you see a game that is equally rewarding as it is frustrating; and it's not because the game is unfair.

If you're a hardcore Dark Souls fan, or if you're confident in your ability to wring every last cent of value out of the game, the Prepare to Die Edition is the way to go.

This Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is not only the worst console port I've ever played (and I play most of them), it's also one of the worst designed. I mean literally, this game is one step above my character having "lives" and when I run out of those, I'm told to jam quarters into my PC to continue playing. If this is what constitutes a "good console RPG", then I'll sleep soundly at night with the knowledge that I'm not missing a damn thing by not owning a PlayStation 3. I guess I'm alone in understanding this, but supposed difficulty is not a substitute for intelligent design. Dark Souls proves that.

The plot is great to me despite some peoples claims that the game doesn't even have a plot and all of the lore written in the world is great, though it isn't told to you, you have to read and observe the world to uncover it. Almost all of the characters are great and the side quests are really good but the way fromsoft does them is kind of stupid. A lot of them require you to look up what to do or spend a crazy amount of time exploring trying to figure it out. There are moments in this game that stand out to me as some of the best moments in all of gaming. It definitely has flaws. Certain enemies, bosses and areas are lacking, especially in Izalith. But despite them it is still one of my favorite games of all time. The way that the world is built, along with certain items and unpatched skips makes it the most replayable action rpg I can think of. Expand

For start PC version is broken **** port that needs mods to fix mouse and keyboard controlls to be even playable. The another proble what people have with this game is that dark souls are really **** in many areas (no NPC development and bad story), but it is par of what this game is. It is an old school dungeon crawler. On first look it looks like skyrimish game, but in fact it is something like Legend of Grimrock. The game it self is not that hard if you know what to do. Gameplay wise it is almost a puzzle game (The boss and large mobs work in a way as bosses from painkiller, they got specific movement set and vounerable places, if you find a way to exploid/learn these things they will die very fast, but if you dont they will erase you in few moments (until you leveled up)).

PS: If you mod it, mouse and keyboard are even better than controller, but you need DSFix

As a whole is it torment like TES arena? (no no way that difficult), but it is that level of games. Dark Souls is not a modern RPG it is old school dungeon crawler. No tutorial, no map, no holding hand. But also no NPC development, no grand story, no dialoges (well almost (yes/no does not really count)).

If you wana another skyrim Stay away from this. If you like games like grimrock and dont mind Legacy of kain combat and need of modding it, you will love this game.

    Okay where to start.
The game is just exactly the same as the PS 3 one. Only thing that isn't there is a resolution fix (already fixed by a mod). Not good nor bad just okay. (They are lazy yea okay)
Now what really pisses me off are the controls. I don't mind bad graphics, i don't mind bad voice acting. I don't mind little glitches or bugs. I do hate (and hate is just the nicest word i could find) the controls, it just ruins the entire gameplay. If you gonna port something to the PC you have to know we use a mouse and a keyboard not an Xbox 360 controller nor PS 3 controller. I was struggling to play this game and after 8 hours of frustration i just gave up and searched the internet for a solution (because you know not everyone has a Xbox controller) now i play this with a PS 3 controller.
The controls are just a lazy 15 minute add on which they probably didn't even test and i hate lazy companies. If i can give you a tip just buy it for the PS 3 and save yourself from some frustration.
