Remnant: From the Ashes is more than just a Dark Souls clone or a simple third-person shooter. It’s the lovechild of the many games, mixed with aspects of Gears of War, Fallout, The Division, and its own brand of weird. The number of games I’ve kept playing after my time with it for a review can probably be counted on two hands, and I’m happy that Remnant is going to be joining their ranks. Despite a shallow store, some repetitive environments, and a few occasionally frustrating glitches, this is a game well worth your time.

An interesting mashup of genres, ultimately creating an experience that can stand alongside even the best Soulslikes.

Remnant: From the Ashes is, in all honesty, a breath of fresh air. A solid and alluring co-op action RPG with a good lot of innovations. Don’t call it a “souls-like with guns”, it’s much more than that.

From the Ashes is a brilliant game that takes what is good about Soulsborne and combines it with a satisfying co-op shooter.

My time with Remnant was a total roller-coaster. There were moments of pure, unfiltered rage, peaks of elation, ah-ha moments, and quiet zen grinds. For the most part though, it's just a steady climb. The developers are not shy about how hard this game is. If that's your cup of tea, perfect! Every victory will be hard-fought, bloody, and beautiful once behind you. I just couldn't shake the small, nagging sense that my few successes weren't earned. I just got lucky, squeaking through the cracks. More than this minor unease, my playtime was marked by anger, by exasperated breaths and whitened knuckles. I ended up having more fun than I expected to, but that shiny nugget of suffering remains. Heed my wary words and proceed at your peril. If a tough time is your aim, then Remnant: From the Ashes is absolutely your game.

Presentation and polish aren't its strong suit, but Remnant: From the Ashes features gripping third-person gunplay and simple but satisfying progression that enable enticing entertainment regardless of whether you're playing cooperatively or solo. The visceral variety and delightful design of the environments and enemies elevate Remnant above other Dark Souls doppelgangers.

Even when the game isn’t actively shooting itself in the foot, it never entirely succeeds.

Any small enemy can be dangerous if the player does not know how to cope with it. The gloomy tone of the game and the uniqueness of each location is also a plus. The game is sharpened for co-op, so it can be played as one, and with live players up to 3 people. The team is selected automatically taking into account the level of its strongest member, which allows you to create a rational group, where each of its representatives will be able to enjoy the game. Negative reviews note the complexity of Remnant: From the Ashes and the uniformity of tactics, also the unsightly graphics, but one common parameter, why the game is bad, they do not. Gunfire Games, you guys have created a quality product, do not throw, develop-good Luck! PS; Bethesda and Ubisoft nervously Smoking in aside... Expand

It kinds of strikes me and a mix between Dark Souls(less punishing) and The original release of The Secret World. While you pick a base class you can mold your character to play like, have the same armor, and weapons as the other classes. So you don't have to feel like you need to start over if the weapons don't fit your play style right away. Now I will get into the positives and negatives of the game and try to make it short and simple.

Note I will be leaving positives and negatives with the viewpoint of only having played in a three man group.

    Positives:

    +COOP Gameplay
*I would strongly recommend playing this game with friends and other people to play with. Makes the game funner and a bit more faster paced with more people.

    +Environments
*The environments and settings in this game are second to none and I find nothing but intrigue to the worlds they currently have built and the worlds they will have in the future.

    +Boss Fights
*The boss fights in this game take me back to my old World of Warcraft days of initially wiping and getting a little further each time figuring out the boss fights. Some bosses you will naturally one shot others you may wipe for 30-45 mins before you get that one good run.

    +Passive Traits
*While there isn't leveling you do earn passives trait points by getting xp from killing bosses, completing quests, and killing monsters. All characters start out with the same basic traits. Others are unlocked by doing certain things in game or killing bosses and you can place your points wherever you please.

    +Dynamic Randomly Generated Worlds/Bosses
-You have the ability once you have played through to re-roll your campaign and play on a harder difficulty and in doing this you may or may not get different bosses on your play through to earn different drops. While the environment much looks the same the map layouts can completely change as well.

    Negatives:

    -Dodging Mechanics
*The controls did take some time for me to get used to at first on PC. While not bad I would say that the dodging system can be frustrating sometimes. It does work both ways as well. There have been times where I have dodge boss attacks 3 or 4 times in row and dodged at what appears to be the exact same timing but gotten hit. While I do attribute this to user error on my part sometimes I do feel it can look and be inconsistent. Then there are times where I have dodge right into a boss attack but don't get hit due to the dodge having an invulnerability window. Think of that which you will and make your own judgement.

    -Characters In The Story
*Many of the characters(NPCs) you meet in the game have no story arc whatsoever and have no use.

    -No Clear Roadmap From Developers
*I have looked online as to what the future of this game holds because there is limitless potential to what they may/can do. 6 player raids, PvP, more Story DLC are all things I would like to see in this game. Unfortunately on their forums and reddit there seems to be no roadmap to let players know what's in store for the future.

Well polished and well made, the combat is satisfying and the guns are very snappy and fun to use. The bosses are fun to fight and have very interesting designs. The game does suffer quite a bit from being repetitive and somewhat grind full. However if this is not a problem for you this is an incredible game to get for 40$. Expand

This game has a lot of ups and downs, with the peaking experience residing in co-op.
The graphics are based on Unreal Engine and although they're decent, it doesn't bring out the full potential of UE. Visuals are generic and level design is horrible, with recycled maps giving no impulse to explore things whatsoever.
As I played coop I didn't have the time to get into the story, but the premise seems to be all about defeating the evil monster hordes which threaten humanity, concept used in plenty of other titles.
Armor aesthetics are awesome and their functionality lets you play with certain builds whenever you decide. Skill points, or so called "Trait" points are not intriguing, as they are just bunch of stats which you can level up, most of them being too weak to even take in consideration.
Mechanics are the defining things of this game, somehow obscuring the other bad things of this product. It's a really nice blend of shooter and Souls series, with bosses which force you to use melee alongside the guns. Some fights are really exciting and difficult, especially if you play on Nightmare difficulty (recommended only after you finished the game at least once and decided what kind of playstyle you will have).
In conclusion since it's not a triple A game, the game is pretty fun to play especially with your friends, unless you don't have PTSD from Dragon Age 2 and ignore the awful level design.
