With its great mechanics, frantic pace, absurd story and insane missions Sunset Overdrive is mad and uncompromising, and that’s exactly what we need in the age of increasingly serious open world games committed to imitating reality. [01/2019, p.70]

It is loud. It is silly. It is wonderfully weird. The mixture of frantic action and skate acrobatics still delivers a very unique arcade action experience.
  3. Sunset Overdrvie brings the fun on Xbox One to the PC platform. If you looking for a fun game, it's a very good alternative on the PC.

Sunset Overdrive is one of the very few open-world games that sets itself apart from the competition with its unique and wacky setting, Parkour system and hectic gameplay experience, and all these are faithfully represented in the PC port. While solid, the port does lack some features that are expected out of a PC game in this day and age: this, coupled with the removal of co-op multiplayer, ends up damaging the experience. If you have no other mean of enjoying the game, however, Sunset Overdrive on PC is more than worthy of your time and money.

It's a little tricky to learn at first, but it rewards your engagement in spades after the first few hours.

I thought it was going to be pretty limited, based on first impressions. How much scope can there be, I thought, in this skateboard-plus-shooting gameplay? Won't I hate the wacky humour? I was very happy to be proved wrong, as the game revealed some great level-design and new surprises, and the humour turns out to be much better pitched than the trailer suggested. Also, as someone who loves character customisation, I love the tweaking on offer here.

Chaos, insanity and humor. Probably the only Xbox exclusive I've wanted to play. Great game.

Sunset Overdrive is a joy to play, A Action Oriented Third Person Movement Shooter with witty dialogue and fluid movement, unlike other gamesSunset Overdrive is a joy to play, A Action Oriented Third Person Movement Shooter with witty dialogue and fluid movement, unlike other games that came out around the same time (2014) Sunset has gotten better with age, with the gameplay and art design still holding up.

The gameplay like previously stated is by far the best element of this game, being fast, responsive, and most importantly fun, and the creators knew this, to the point that this is a fundamental aspect of the game that they keep intact for the entire game, so instead of making bosses that force the player to wait and bite their time, they have created enemies and main threats that will change the way you have to manivor, whether that is switching from one tactic to another or having to get higher up to avoid larger lethal ground enemies. The game doesn’t bog down it’s premise with useless filler, rather going for a compact package that respects your time. Collectibles do reside around the world, but by the end of the game I had already collected 70% so I feel it is much less tedious to collect all them then many other games with collectibles like these. All of this rings true for most of the game, until you reach the DLC, which as well as a difficulty spike, (which doesn’t mean much tbh) there is also a diversion from the main gameplay, and throws in gimmicks that seem to divert from the main consistent fast pace that the game normally holds.

The Music as well as the atmosphere is energized and complements the gameplay in how active and lively it is, mainly composed of rock music that always fits so nicely to the gameplay. It is nothing that will be counted as “beautiful” but suits the game well.

The Presentation still holds up, thanks to its many visual gags, and vibrant color palette that accentuate the cast of characters. The game visually still looks great, and heavily leans into the comic book/cartoon aesthetic at times which gives it it’s personality amongst other shooters that have gone mainly grey and flavorless. I will say this game has a personality, and is clearly very tongue and cheek about curtain aspects of it's own design which I found very enjoyable.

Sunset Overdrive is a 8/10, even with frustrating problems appearing in the DLC missions as well as a few of the main quests feeling too similar to some of the previous, I still believe it’s worth every cent, and I plan on returning to this game in the future.

    Optimization/Performance/Stability: 7

My target framerate for this game was 75 FPS, Sunset Overdrive consistently fell below my target framerate and I have played many other modern open world games that could reach that target framerate without any problem. I and my friend had other issues such as the camera getting stuck, and keybinds not saving. I feel like 7/10 is generous, specs are below.

    I7-5820 @ 4.2Ghz
    16GB DDR4 RAM
    GTX 970
    HDD @ 7200 RPM

    Story: 3

The story felt like it was tacked on, definitely wasn't the main focus. Nothing was really interesting about it. Only one memorable character, the story lacks depth.

    Graphics/Art Style: 9

This game is very stylish, animations are cool, textures look nice. Only complain is that a couple of character models looked a little out of place.

    Mechanics: 10

There is a lot to play around with in this game, every weapon is unique and has a different effect on each of the enemies. The traps allow you to be more strategic and make the defense missions really fun. The movement in this game is A+ no doubt.

    Content/Length: 7

DIsclusing the DLC the length of this game is average but there is a bunch of collectibles to get. Not to mention the character customizer is great and there are a bunch of weapons and abilities to get. Some missions are slow and boring and some are really fun.

    7.2/10 or C
    I recommend it
