  1. Nier is an awesome game which brings a great story, lots of gameplay variation, interesting characters and a very good soundtrack. It is the surprise of this year!
  2. A great combination of action games like Bayonetta and RPG games like Last Remnant. Everything from bosses to the epic music deserves praise.

Nier won't wow players with its basic mechanics, but in the story it tells, the characters it develops, and the themes present throughout play, it will easily win over anyone seeking something emotionally exploratory and well off the beaten path.

The ideas that Nier was built on are extremely solid -- the execution just falls short.

Provided you can make it through the disappointing introduction and swallow your outrage every time Kaine makes a show of bending over, Nier is a classic action RPG with some refreshing elements and a reminder that streamlined gameplay need not mean a restrictive experience due to its minimal but innovative weapon and ability upgrade system.
  6. Thanks to a strong narrative and a relatively good concept, Nier is to be considered a decent addition to the PS3's and 360's RPG catalog. Although its visuals aren't surely breathtaking and its gameplay doesn't excel in terms of depth, the game will in fact manage to guarantee a likable experience to any fan of the genre.

As far as being an actioner that's worthy of your time, this is not up to the standard we'd expect. In fact, it's nowhere Nier. [June 2010, p.105]

Wow what can I say! This game really is one of the best games of 2010. The story and characters are really great and touching. The graphical art style is fantastic.

    The combat is very fun.

There are lots of optional sidequests throughout the game and there all different.

The game probably has one of the most amazing beautiful ost's ever.

A game should not be judged on it individual parts, but the experience as a whole. And as a whole Nier is amazing. I've heard people complain about hte combat, I don't know why, there's dozens of weapons and abilities to mix and match and smash the enemy to dust Feels good, variety and satisfaction, what's missing???
The crowning achievement is of course the mature, non compromising story, or stories, because as you play through Nier you uncover many fascinating characters and get drawn into their live and their stories and every one is enjoyable and compelling. The character have unfortuatly been tainted a bit by centain fans of the games over the years , making them out to be something they are not in the game and for this reason I really hope the game is never updated or remade. This is a game that was playable and great when it was released and will still be 20 years from now. If people want to experience this masterpiece they should experience the original vision , it's a game that was bold for its time and times have changed for the worse, censorship and offended snowflakes would destroy what makes Nier great.

Nier has a lot going for it with only a few flaws holding it back - occasional wonky controls, audio issues in places when playing for long sessions and horrible drop rates for useful/needed items forcing long grinding sessions for side quests, lack of consistent quest indicators when complete, etc. -

    Great story
    Good combat
    Good voice acting
    Phenomenal sound and soundtrack
    Decent graphics
    Acceptable puzzles
    Nice farming mechanism
Great introduction to the game play and its mechanics
Multiple endings with depth in a NG+

If you haven't played this game yet and enjoy RPGs I strongly encourage you to try this game and its worth owning - if not essential to own.

I'm going to keep this review short and simple:
I loved playing Nier. It has it's share of flaws, especially with somewhat monotonous combat once you unlock the strongest spells as well as the main minigame, but the music and story were probably my favorite out of any game I've played. If you enjoy JRPGs, then I'd recommend this to you.
