A story about the distant future of gaming - from an unexpected angle. Plenty of characters and plot twists included. Master the bouncing ball mechanics and solve a whole bunch of puzzles. CrossCode has fast, action-packed combat filled with damage numbers. And we still managed to squeeze some strategy in there. Be a proper avatar and master all 4 elements: Cold, Heat, Shock and Wave. What, those are not the right elements? No idea what you are talking about. Being a proper RPG, CrossCode comes with tons of skills, equipment, items, NPCs, quests and all those fun little things consuming your precious time. CrossCode is full of awesome: huge hostile cyborg crabs, a seaman with a jetpack and head-banging meerkats. Expand

Radical Fish Games has raised the bar for retro-inspired indie games. You owe it to yourself to uncover the secrets Shadoon and CrossWorlds with Lea and friends in CrossCode.

CrossCode really impressed me. Instead of overly leaning on the retro-inspired graphics, the developers created an exceptionally unique and incredibly fun RPG experience. Thankfully, the console release doesn’t change that, even with a few controller issues. I highly recommend this as a must-play Action-RPG, and now that it’s on consoles, we have no more excuses on why we aren’t playing it.

CrossCode is without a doubt one of the best RPG titles we’ve seen this year, marrying 90s JRPG nostalgia with modern gaming sensibilities to create an exceptional experience. Whether it’s the stellar combat, ingenious puzzle design or lush and vibrant world, there’s plenty to keep you coming back to CrossCode throughout its lengthy story.

CrossCode is an old-style 2D RPG, set in an MMO and made precious by an incredibly refined style.

Overall, I enjoyed Crosscode much more than I thought I would. Despite the generic and cliched start of the game, it is full of great writing and a lot of heart. Couple that with solid gameplay, beautiful graphics and a solid soundtrack and you have an indie-RPG that is easy to recommend to fans of the genre. If you're a fan of action-RPG's and fondly remember the 16-bit era, you owe it to yourself to check CrossCode out!

There’s a lot to love about CrossCode, from it’s fast and frantic combat, through to it’s tough but satisfying puzzles. The MMO setting is incredibly well done and manages to mimic the online experience whilst also taking time out to make fun of itself. This is an absolutely charming RPG where it feels like there's always something new to experience.

Like Owlboy and Iconoclasts before it, CrossCode is the latest in a long line of longer-gestating labors of love that emerge with varying degrees of cohesion. The best thing that can be said about CrossCode is it doesn't feel at all dated or clunky on the other end of a prolonged development time. The biggest knock against it is that CrossCode can and often does wind up feeling both bloated and inspired simultaneously.

Saw this wasn't getting a whole lot of reviews, wanted to drop my two cents. I played it on PC a while ago and absolutely loved it. ItSaw this wasn't getting a whole lot of reviews, wanted to drop my two cents. I played it on PC a while ago and absolutely loved it. It surpassed my expectations in nearly every way from gameplay to the RPG system, to the story. If you're into retro-style action RPGs, Zelda-likes, Ys games, Alundra, etc. Whatever you're playing right now, finish it and pick this one up. It's got pretty much everything you need and more. Oh boy, let me tell you how glad I am that someone on a podcast I listened to mentioned speaking with the early developers to this game yearsOh boy, let me tell you how glad I am that someone on a podcast I listened to mentioned speaking with the early developers to this game years and years ago, probably at an E3 conference or something of the like. Sitting here in the middle of a pandemic, really needing some kind of gaming distraction—despite having played all the way through FFVII Remake, Persona 5 Royal, TLOU2, and Ghost of Tsushima just over the last few months. It’s actually because of all of those games that Crosscode was the game I really, but didn’t know I, needed in my life. If you don’t mind old school retro-platformers and action RPGs—many allude to the “Metroidvania” genre, but I would prefer to consider this to be a crossover between an old Legend of Zelda style gameplay but with all the Action RPG Mechanics of Legends/Secrets of Mana game.

The platforming and game design is simply brilliant, much better than any Castlevania or Metroid game I’ve ever played (trust me, you can tell they worked very hard to make you think and revisit your mistakes in ways that lead to the ‘Eureka!!!’ solution moments we all enjoy so much at times. I must warn anyone interested in this game, then be warned, however, it is quite long—probably 40-50 hours of actual gaming content just in the storyline, more—like double or triple that—if you really try to look for everything. In addition, there are still a few odd bugs that force the game to crash and need to be patched, but they’re rather rare now and the game auto saves every time you leave or enter an area—any sized area, which is really nice!
