You seek untold riches, eternal life, divine powers -- it leads to this accursed temple, a seemingly-infinite labyrinth of bottomless pits, deadly traps, and monsters.

Your greed will lead you to death, but that is not an escape. Rise to fight again. Delve deeper again. Defy the malignant deities that linger in this place. Battle through hordes of enemies in dark, cavernous passages filled with traps and secrets of all sorts -- fire-spewing statues, explosives, hidden spikes, and worse.

Collect mystical Relics and an arsenal of weapons to make yourself unstoppable. Corruption builds in you with every step -- encourage or ignore it, but each powerful curse can be a double-edged sword.

Curse of the Dead Gods is an excellent rogue-lite, but clearly loses out in comparison with Hades.

As visually striking as it is addictive, Curse of the Dead Gods blends together satisfying combat with a few unique mechanics, making for a roguelite that will eat away at your free time in a big way.

Curse of the Dead Gods is by no means an easy roguelike. It is often brutal, punishing, and hopeless. The game flings curses at the player meant to transform how they adjust to established mechanics by throwing in new gameplay wrenches that can potentially drown the unprepared in obstacles. It’s up to the player to decide how to adapt and persevere. A wealth of tools makes combat difficult, yet exciting and varied. Using light as a boon to further test your mettle allows an outpouring of creativity in how a potentially terrifying or simplistic room can be turned on its head. Curse of the Dead Gods is a stylish, confident dungeon crawler that incorporates the right amount of reward into its teeth. Rarely did I feel absolutely overwhelmed, punished by the gods who tested me. Eventually, with a firm grasp on my torch, I burned them all down with ease.

Curse of the Dead Gods' mechanics work together and mesh excellently, with the dark oppressive narrative and atmosphere really creating a unique gameplay experience, with the features on offer. A lot of variation and the ability to tune your character helps it stand out during the less enjoyable difficulty spikes the game suffers with towards the end.

Curse of the Dead Gods is one of the most varied and gripping roguelikes that I've ever played so if you enjoy challenging combat with a wide variety of melee and ranged weaponry set in a dark and eerie game world then you'll love what it has in store.

As Rogue-likes go, Curse of the Dead Gods is up there with the best of them. It’s got brilliant combat, dastardly traps to overcome if you want their riches, and numerous unique systems layered on top that add considerable depth. With the prospect of death (or at least grave misfortune) around every corner, it keeps you on your toes, uncertain of what the future holds. But you’ll find yourself going back time and time again, ever hopeful that soon, the temple that’s been holding you back will be conquered. It’s not for the faint of heart, but Rogue-like fans would be mad to give this the cold shoulder.

This is a challenging game. Despite enemies telegraphing attacks, their numbers can get the better of you. Combined with arena traps, hazards, and a lack of light sources, it can be rather difficult. However, with a parry, dodge roll, and your set of weapons, you're given plenty of opportunity to defend yourself. Combat really keeps you on your toes, and gives the game a quick pace that makes runs that much more addictive. If you want a dungeon crawler with satisfying gameplay and some unique ideas, this is far from a curse.

After playing it for a few runs i noticed it is nothing like Hades or any of the other roguelikes i played where u get a stacking effect on your weapons. At first i was slightly dissappointed because i had certain expectations however after playing more i started to really enjoy the combat. Last second dodges and especially parries feel so rewarding. I will be putting many more hours into this game. Expand

I say this because in this game, like chess, dark souls, or card games the gameplay is the star and having a story would trivialize it. Its gameplay would have to be sacrificed. If I weigh in on the Hades vs Curses of the dead gods debate im all over this game for its challenge and replay ability. Every aspect of the game works. I checked out Hades and it looks fun but no way am I succumbing to the story and characters. From my perspective the characters and story degrade that game heavily or is suitable to casual gamers only willing to play it once. I see Curse of the dead gods strength that it's omitting having to put myself through some torturous half cheesy half mandatory narrative. What I like about this game is it's absolutely phenomenally balanced gameplay. Every decision you make whether by upgrades or by action has a meaningful consequence that imparts your success or failure. You basically are doing dungeon runs with about 10 rooms ending in a final boss. The rooms have various gameplay decisions to make each offering a reward such as replenishing life, getting a weapon upgrade or getting stat boosts ect ect. Each room is randomly generated so traps and locations of enemies will feel varied each dungeon run. When you fail there are new strategies to try again. What is here for its size of game is phenomenal. Controls are tight and you will be challenged by the combat. The risk reward system is perfect. As you move from each dungeon room, and also being hit by corruption blasts from enemies you accumulate curses which mostly hinder your gameplay but also introduce new options to your gameplay style. The game is super fun and very addicting and despite the small size the game appears it does not get repetitive because the weapons are so balanced trying new weapons and weighing new strategies always felt addictive. The game could only made better by being larger. Hopefully an expanded sequel with more bells and whistles makes this a series we can all look forward to. Expand

This is not Hades! This game will get a lot of negative reviews from people that expected the casual experience and the mirror-upgrade + storyThis is not Hades! This game will get a lot of negative reviews from people that expected the casual experience and the mirror-upgrade + story loop of Hades.

The core game play of Curse of the Dead Gods is much deeper, but it doesn't have story content or that many rougue-lite elements. You have to improve your skills instead of mirror upgrades in this game - it's much more skill based and if you know how to play and how to handle the controls and enemy attack patterns you could easily win without any permanent upgrades.

If you're looking for a great rogue-lite dungeon crawler with game play focus instead of Hades 2.0, you can't go wrong.

Unfortunately all the rest (story, repetition, longevity) is not on that level. In the end, every new stage is the same as the previous one with just buffed versions of the same enemies.
