"The developer has refined and perfected the combat. It kept its silliness in tact. It kept in the darker themes and deep moments of self-reflection that we all need every once in awhile. It’s, quite frankly, the best Kingdom Hearts game Square Enix has ever created." ... Read full review

"Kingdom Hearts III has the magic you've been waiting for. Square Enix has achieved the best episode of the series. Sora, Donald and Goofy are now very fast and take you through an array of endearing experiences and characters. The script continues to have problems but everything else is a memory that will stick with you forever." ... Read full review

"After so many years Kingdom Hearts III needed to be a strong send-off for the series, and for the most part, it is. The gameplay is still top tier and encourages diving back in once the credits have rolled to track down missed items and a secret boss. The individual worlds are gorgeous, and deserve to be combed through for every last scrap of treasure. It’s just a shame that plot stumbles over itself so many times because it really does drag the game down, but if I turn off the analytical part of my brain just enough, there truly is something special here. "There’s nothing quite like Kingdom Hearts. It’s like the most elaborate fan fiction of the Disney universe – a digital walkthrough of the movies with a loosely connective narrative tissue that just doesn’t matter much when all is said and done. If you embrace that it’s all nonsense to serve you up a delightful nostalgic romp through some of the greatest and most beloved family films, you’re not going to be disappointed." ...

Kingdom Hearts III is a good game. I can't say it's great or even satisfying, though.

In my eyes, the first game is almost perfect. It had a simple story, strategic combat, and was a stunning crossover effort that worked against all odds. KH II and BBS were a step down, but still great games. Everything else...well, let's just say they lost touch with what worked so well in the first game.

I actually have a lot of praise to throw at this game; most notably the beautiful visuals. Stunning is a good description, and one I would have used often. The game also ran amazingly well and felt very smooth. Basically every technical aspect of this game was very well done. Music and sound is top notch, as always.

The gameplay was mostly fun, although combat had issues. Calling it a 'button-masher' would be too harsh, I think. But I got that vibe. The forms and keyblade designs from the main worlds were rather disappointing, too. I miss the Valor, Wisdom, Master type transformations from the second game. I also had issues with the Frozen and Monsters Inc. worlds, which were underdeveloped and a little boring. I will soon be starting the end-game content, which looks promising.

The story, as convoluted and weird as it was, actually came to a mostly-complete conclusion. Every character received their moment, and all sub-plots I could remember were wrapped up in a neat bow. Unfortunately, these moments all happened within a couple of hours and weren't given enough time to gel, so the impact on me was minimal. In fact, the entire end portion of the game felt rushed and often focused on pointless sections instead of giving me more neat battles or plot-payoff. Basically what I want from future games is a much simpler plot. These characters are great...just do something less convoluted with them. I mean, this is Disney. What would be wrong with going back to a classic good vs. evil plot?

Also, I want Star Wars, Marvel, and Square worlds in the next one. I can dream, I guess.

To sum up, I think this game is good. Definitely worth playing. But...not completely satisfying for a final installment in a story-arc. Final Fantasy is missing altogether, as are several game modes or side quests I thought were obvious (arena or Sephiroth battle?). Overall though, I would recommend this game. Just keep the expectations in check.

A great addition to the Kingdom Hearts Franchise. Even a good enough ending if they choose to make it that way. I had a great time playing the game, and it was well worth my money. If you’re a fan, it does a good enough job with the plot threads. With a story this convoluted and full, you’re not going to make it perfect. My major gripe with the game is that they just kept going and going. It’s not bad if the content isn’t the same stuff over and over again. Hearts, friends, darkness, light, Sora, Riku, Kairi, etc etc. There’s nothing that made me go “Wow, that was unexpected!”. It’s grand, its epic, its heart warming, and all that good stuff. What I’m saying is its solid and what I say next are just things that bug me personally. So lets get to it.

Sora is such a **** in this game. He dies like 3 times (who knows its hard to keep track). He can do absolutely NOTHING on his own. Sora was chosen to wield the keyblade because he was optimistic and always knew there was hope. If it wasn’t for half of the cast, it would be a completely different story that ended much sooner. Sora was a badass in Kingdom Hearts 2. He kicked the **** out of the head honcho of the Organization, and when he and Riku were fighting Xehonort, it was Sora leading the charge. The story could have been about any one of a number of people. He isn’t the badass that had the confidence to take on anyone who threatened his friends. Like, why is he crying? Why is he pleading with people? Why is he so reliant on the people around him? I get that this story is about friendship and hearts and yada yada but Sora wasn’t such a whiny wuss in the other ones. He was always up for the challenge. It’s annoying, i dont want to play as the crybaby of the group. I would have much rather been Aqua in this game.

Next, they just love stacking despair at the end of the game. Oh no, sora is dead and all the bad guys are strong. Oh no, they took Kairi. Oh no the odds are 2 against 1. Oh no they killed Kairi. Oh no kingdom hearts is open. Oh no the bad guys win. Oh no the bad guy is 13 bad guys. Like, quit having me overcome the odds that Sora was ready to give up on 3 hours ago. It was just boring by the end.

Other than that, spot on and a great addition to the Kingdom Hearts Collection.
