Civilization VI is essential. Not only is it a game that's educational, informative, and inspirational (see my video above for more thoughts around that), but it's also deeply pertinent to today's world and gives players a way of seeing - and grappling - with the topic on their own terms. There are deeper strategy games out there (though not on PlayStation 4), but Civilization's accessibility and polish make it the perfect introduction to the genre, and while the PS4 port doesn't do anything beyond what was already on offer, this is still one of the best things released on the console this year.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI on console works perfectly and it's a pleasure to play.

Civilization VI is an excellent strategy game that offers numerous ways to play, and all of them are viable options. You can lead a peaceful nation or a war-mongering empire and still have an engrossing and rewarding experience like few others on PS4. Excessive load times, grating music, and some occasionally irksome controls are the only real downsides to what is otherwise the system's best strategy game, and a title that strategy fans can scarcely afford to skip.

The great Civilization VI works perfectly well in Nintendo Switch. Is one of the best strategic game of the last years, and it's pure addictive thanks to portable mode.

"Rise & Fall"and "Gathering Storm" are packed into this console version. The gameplay experience and controls work perfectly. A must-buy for every Civilization game fan.

Epic time travel with very well interlinked elements. A great RTS despite weak AI.

Civilization VI is a rock solid port that keeps the game’s strengths – and flaws – intact for consoles.

I like creating my own huge maps and claiming as much land as possible. I almost always go for a cultural win (I hate fighting!) or a science win. The narration is fantastic, the music is wonderful, and the game is just a tad bit addicting. Expand

    A Missed Opportunity for Greatness - 5/10

Civilization VI is undoubtedly an ambitious installment in the iconic 4X series, boasting impressive artistic efforts and a myriad of new gameplay elements. However, despite these commendable aspects, I find myself struggling to fully enjoy the game due to issues with gameplay pacing and an overwhelming sense of "overdevelopment."

With so many elements crammed into the experience, the game often feels disjointed and, at times, even a chore to play. While Civ VI may still reign as the king of AAA 4X games, I sincerely hope that future installments will refocus on streamlined gameplay and a more historically authentic experience.

This leads me to one of my major pain points with Civilization VI: its departure from historical accuracy. As a longtime fan of the series, I fondly remember Civ III as an incredible history encyclopedia. In contrast, Civ VI feels more like a fairy tale, prioritizing political correctness over historical facts.

The inclusion of mythological queens alongside historical leaders and the introduction of zombie units alongside real-world armies creates a jarring experience that detracts from the game's authenticity. It's almost as if the developers decided to parody their own franchise, losing sight of what made it so captivating in the first place.

In conclusion, while Civilization VI showcases the artistic talents of its development team, it falls short of delivering a satisfying and historically accurate 4X experience. I believe that the series has the potential to recapture its former glory, but only if future installments refocus on a streamlined, historic, and immersive experience that fans have come to know and love.

Multiplayer on Ps4 doesn't work so if you're looking to play with friends pick a different game!

Instead of ever having to learn and optimize strategy, one can easily select all units and production facilities and mash keys to win relentlessly against the luck element which is scarcely challenging. You're better off playing any of the age of empires series because then even if you lose, you still have a familiar and engaging game to get back to where you're taught strategy and rewarded for wise play. Civilization you just have to keep clicking. Expand
