I found myself utterly captivated by this game, which takes so many creative risks in the name of its vision. The limited “story” in favour of a deeper narrative working on a more subtle level, downbeat and muted visuals, and graceful rather than visceral combat are all things that are lauded in video games, however appropriate to the experience that the developer is crafting. But this team stuck with the vision, and we should be thankful for that. If you do enjoy the likes of theatre, opera, and ballet, then Valkyrie Elysium belongs to the incredibly small group of titles that share a similarity to those art forms, and that’s more than a nice to have, it’s the kind of art we need to see more developers experimenting with.
Valkyrie Eysium lives and dies by its fast paced combat system, and it's worth trying for that one alone. It's a distinctly low budget effort from Square Enix, but still a game with a soul, even if with a lot of room for improvements. If you like fast paced hack''n'slash games in the vein of the ones from Platinum Games, give this a try.
Giving it one extra point for a 10 to balance out some of those who don't sound like they actually played the same game I did. I love the voice acting, the story is engaging, combat is fun and fast... Devil May Cry experts should excel here. The soundtrack is mood correct, and there are some sad elements scattered throughout that are appropriate to the story. I've been playing games since 1985, all genre except sports, and highly recommend this game. It's fun... Please try it!
I can't understand why people hate this game. It is one of my favorite games on the ps4. The ps5 version would be even better because it would run more smoothly. The art direction, depending on who you are, could be considered better than almost every other game. The budget and small team surely effected how fleshed out everything is. However, I was overall satisfied and really happy that this game existed at all. I can't stand most other RPG or action RPG aesthetics. The Valkyrie is smoking cute and the intermission area is so beautiful. The action is fun and is constantly fresh. The downsides are enemy variety and some might complain that the environments are bland. However, I really enjoyed the environments. They did a such a great job with what I imagine the developers limitations were. It is a very creative and smart game. Something was drawing me to this game, and the negative reviews kept me away. But one review from Happy Gamer on YouTube that was positive, changed my mind. I'm so glad I gave this game a try. For me, it's the best. I'm obsessed with it. If you're into this, cheers! I hope more games like this come out. The Valkyrie is such a cool character!
While it doesn't do enough to earn a place in the halls of Valhalla, there is still pleasure to be had in sprinting and fighting through these Elysian fields. [Issue#378, p.112]
Valkyrie Elysium is a game of two halves. The level design and objectives feel at least two generations old and the characters and storyline are more like placeholders than the finished article. There's no capital F feelings here or much in the way of narrative justification, but if you're okay with that and you just want fifteen to twenty hours of fast, frantic, fluid combat then we can just about recommend this one.
The game is pretty good. Without this game, Final Fantasy XV would never have existed. If you analyse the user score, you can see the game is a good game, but it recieved lot of hate because it went on the market on a time that every game that was a PS5 exclusive had to recieved hate to improve Xbox mettrics over PS. Don't let anyone decide by you. You'll lost an incredible story about a Valkyrie on her journey to save the world.
As someone who has played the prior Valkyrie Profile games, I was very excited to have a new entry in a franchise that had been dormant for over a decade between this and Covenant of the Plume. Elysium really nails the story of a Valkyrie being sent to Midgard to find warriors for the All-Father, only to have her beliefs in Odin questioned by a renegade Valkyrie. While the Valkyrie herself is a bit one note of a character, the cast around her is actually quite interesting to learn about before they join you. The combat is usually satisfying for the most part, though I did have occasional instances of the dodge/block coming out a slight bit later than I would have wanted, or the Valkyrie being caught in long animations. And the enemy variety is lacking a bit, usually relying on recoloured versions of the same enemy, or some hitting with different elements/status problems. Visually, the game is very nice to look at. If you can get the game on sale, it's a hidden gem for sure. Not the strongest point in the Valkyrie Profile series, but a good game nonetheless.
Combat is bad there is no animation cancellation ,world looks and feels abandoned with nothing really of interest.Music is repetitive and quickly becomes annoying,And there seems to be a problem with the resolution on pcFor whatever reason you can't play in high resolution, you see the option in the options menu but it changes back to low res every **** in all it's just another low effort game from square.
I haven't finished it and not planning to continue the game so I don't die from boredom, the game screams "we need to make quick bucks so let's charge the players 60$ for a sh!!ty game with boring, over-used plot about ragnarok and odin so we can call it a day" very disappointed, I read a review that said the game feels like plastic and I couldn’t agree more.
SummaryLong ago, Ragnarok - the End Times - loomed upon the realms. The All-Father, with the last of his strength, created an emissary of redemption; her sole task the salvation of a doomed world. And thence began the tale of a new Valkyrie... This brand-new game brings the VALKYRIE combines an evocative world inspired by Norse mythology, thril...
