It'll probably be overlooked or dismissed by too many people who assume that it's only worth playing if you're a fan of the anime, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that it's worth checking out regardless whether or not you're familiar with Sword Art Online.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song is an enjoyable game that does have it's flaws.

Unfortunately, Lost Song stumbles hardest when trying to engage players outside that sphere of pre-existing investment, and in some ways ends up an even less suitable jumping-off point for newbies who want to get in on enjoying the franchise.

Although it is fun to hack and slash things on the go, the paper thin storyline and bland quests make this game difficult to recommend. Fans might enjoy the character interactions, but if you're looking for that, there are plenty of other and better games on the Vita.

I have played the previous game Hollow Fragment and my only issue with it was story and over complex combat. I have bought this game few days ago during boxing week. The eb games worker suggested it as he was an avid gamer like me. I put the chip in my vita and i was amazed. the story makes more sense, the combat was simplified like crazy in a good way and YOU CAN FLY! i am not caught up in the anime but i am half into season one but the story seem to be tied in, it was written by the creator of SAO so that's a major plus Expand

I am pleased to say that Lost Song improves upon Hollow Fragment in every way! The graphics are definitely much more next-gen for those interested and the story is well translated and fun even if it's slow to get started.

The combat system has been much simplified, with square performing a quick attack and triangle a power attack by holding R and using the d pad aswell as square and triangle you can perform sword skills aswell as magic attacks while your weapons are sheaved. The sword skills have some great particle effects attached and even with a large number of enemies on screen, even when flying, I've noticed very little slow down in the game so far.

And of course, there is the aforementioned flight mechanic, which really brings the game into a league of it's own, the flight is handled amazingly well, with each change in movement and speed feeling natural and controlling beautifully, and while the altitude limit can be a bit restraining at first it can be lifted eventually.

The games environments are beautiful to look at from the sky and the ground and the boss battles are reliably amazing both in the menacing appearance of the bosses and in the epic combat that ensues, the biggest let down for me was the dungeons in the game, the main way of progressing the story and while they are the holders of the epic boss fights, the dungeons are actually quite dull and became repetitive very fast. A lot of the enemies in the different lands of the games are simple reskins aswell which takes a bit of the thrill away from discovering a new region only for the first enemy you encounter to be a reskin.

The final part of Lost Song that I will talk about is the multiplayer, hollow fragment dissapointingly lacked any multiplayer whatsoever and Lost Song makes up for it perfectly, the quest mode is fun and social allowing you to quest after a large monster or through a dungeon with a group of team mates, monster hunter style. You can also duel fellow players one on one with custom rules to see who is the strongest, it all runs very well and was great fun to enjoy!

All in all, I've enjoyed Lost song a lot and hope to continue to enjoy a couple more tens of hours! It does have it's downsides but the pros far outweigh the cons for this game! Recommended!

oh my god, this is the worst game I have ever played. infinity moment was better than this, because infinity moment has tons of great weaponoh my god, this is the worst game I have ever played. infinity moment was better than this, because infinity moment has tons of great weapon skill trees compared to this crap.

and the moment that you're finally make your own character, that's when it f**ks up because....character customization is LIMITED. you can't change your gender, changing skin colors is limited so you're stuck customizing the same person with little difference when you're planning to make another one with an existing faction that your existing character is in.

finally the story. KIRITO IS GARY STU AGAIN. I gave up because there's no auto saves. I play for more than 3 hours, exited the game assuming there's an auto save, after an hour of me pondering on why am I playing this game, I came back to play it again, only to find out that the game has no AUTOSAVE.

but hey, at least the multiplayer content is great....WRONG.
multiplayer is limited to only fighting bosses and pvp, the developer of this game didn't thought this through, if they at least included free roaming co-op, I should have been contented that this game at least have a decent multiplayer playing with friends, but nah. game looks c**p.

my opinions on the pvp are mixed, there are some spells that are op, some are useless.
a decent amount of maps but that doesn't keep me from not liking this game. I want to love it, but the way it is right now, I don't like it.

and the next time a new sao game comes out, I don't want to buy a sequel, a prequel, I don't care.

if you buy this game for kirito-sama and his god-like gary stu ****, fans of this sh*t will love it.

if you buy this game for the great multiplayer content and meaningful story than kirito, then you have nothing to find it in this game.

The big maps are monotonous. All the dungeons got same texture, and it feels like you play the same dungeon over and over again. The story doesn't make me one bit motivated to progress in the game. Classes are imbalanced. It doesn't try to resemble MMORPG, for those who dream to play single player mmorpg.
All this game really offer is some fan service - all the girls will join unconditionally in your party, and they will dress whatever you want them to dress - including that beach suit, on which they are almost naked. About fly system? OMG, I fly and? The monotonous map doesn't make big difference if you fly or no. See, if I could free fly in Terra Online(for example), would be very happy. But not here.
Monsters variety is so low, so you feel like fighting same enemies over and over again.
    This game sucks.
