It is not a Metroidvania that will blow your mind, nor the indie of the moment, but Saviorless is capable of touching fibers that were formed in our gaming experience and that, sometimes, we have forgotten.
Saviorless is a great indie game with an abstract story that captivates you from start to finish, but it has a confusing and rushed ending, which is improved by the other endings available in its plot. In terms of gameplay, the game shines with platforming challenges that offer just the right amount of difficulty and will test your skills, especially during boss battles. The game is a pleasant surprise from a market that is just starting out in the electronic games industry and has everything it needs to grow.
Saviorless is a 2D game with hand-drawn designs that starts off calm, focused on the same concept of Narrative. Little by little its difficulty increases and, by the time you are aware, there it is, showing its teeth, making you sweat with every jump and every blow. And you become desperate like you couldn't imagine when you started your journey. Keep going. When you get to the end you will know that all the blood, sweat and tears were worth it.
Empty Head's indie title triumphs over local challenges, offering a thrilling and chilling journey. The designs of the environments, monsters, and main characters evoke discomfort while igniting curiosity about where the story will lead.
Saviorless is one of those games whose simplicity of the gameplay and quality of art direction work together to create something unique. Even though the campaign is short, following the characters' steps and unraveling the mysteries of the narrative make it worth the time.
Saviorless is a beautiful game: its 2D art style remains gorgeous throughout. It's just a shame that its gameplay doesn't stay as enjoyable. What starts out as a rather fun puzzle-platformer eventually devolves into an exercise in frustration thanks to one hit kills and too much reliance on trial and error.
With a vague and unsatisfying story and simple yet frustrating gameplay, Saviorless needed more than an astonishing art style to be the one worth saving. If you’re into the more retro side of 2D platformers than you might get a slight hint of that nostalgia, but it’s otherwise a very one dimensional adventure.
