There's a core of at least seven songs here that rate as highly as the best from the first two albums, and they're anything but reheated.
-
Cole (the star of her own hit BET reality series) still sounds plenty intense singing about finding a guy who completes her.
-
Throughout, though, Cole emphatically dares to be different--and pretty great.
-
Like Blige, Cole luckily possesses the vocal talent to carry the album through weaker moments.
-
Cole does better when she keeps an eye toward the future.
-
Where her voice was once assured and three-dimensional, here, although many of the songs are pleasant, Ms. Cole comes off flat.
