With A Different Ship, Here We Go Magic has essentially removed the "psych" from psych-folk and replaced it with monotony.

Framing Temple's songs in display-case glass only reveals how little they have going on, and the tidy production saps his band of its best trait: its scrappiness.

Here We Go Magic move between more full-on hyperactivity in that vein from songs like "Make Up Your Mind" and "I Believe in Action" to the easier-going grooves of "Alone But Moving," but too often they don't do much with that.

This band just keeps getting better with each record. Nigel Godrich definitely helps capture a bit of their live show on this record. WithThis band just keeps getting better with each record. Nigel Godrich definitely helps capture a bit of their live show on this record. With their self-titled album I absolutely thought this band was going to make 1 decent album and fall off the planet. Oh, how glad I am to be wrong. This album is such a beauty! If you have any interest in this band at all, go see them live and get blown away!

TLDR; fantastic live band brings A game to the studio.
