  1. The music on this feisty, funny rap album isn't new--just irresistible.
  2. Perhaps All City’s most pleasing triumph, for fans of Northern State’s earlier stuff, is that the colloquial character of the Hesta and co.’s voices is in no way diluted by the more polished music accompanying it.
  3. On All City, Northern State does what visionary rap acts have done throughout the genre's history: It re-creates hip-hop in its own image, molding it into a potent vehicle for singular aspirations, anxieties, and dreams.
  4. With few female MCs truly representing these days, Northern State's "All City" is a breath of fresh air.

Only on the album-closing "Summer Never Ends"... do the gals sound like they're relaxed and doing their own thing--not trying to make Paula's Boutique. [Sep 2004, p.140]
  6. Hip-hop for the modern fabulous woman.
  7. There are occasional lapses in the lyrics department.
  8. 58
They're Old Schooled enough to ace history, but the science they drop is strictly C+. [Sep 2004, p.120]
  9. It can be rough going, especially when the three rappers fall back on stilted clichés. [30 Aug 2004]
  10. The ladies aren't ready to carry an album by themselves. [Oct 2004, p.146]

Har Mar Superstar is the only way to make a Northern Star album worse than it already is. They need to change the album title to "All Har Mar Superstar is the only way to make a Northern Star album worse than it already is. They need to change the album title to "All Sh*tty". ...coming to an Urban Outfitters playlist near you! Full Review »

Unbelieveable. Again rap has been reinvented - and NS is to thank for it. I am SO SICK and tired of the bling-hos-weed-40oz bullshit the Unbelieveable. Again rap has been reinvented - and NS is to thank for it. I am SO SICK and tired of the bling-hos-weed-40oz bullshit the record industry has been cramming down our throats. Kudos for Columbia for signing these wicked white muses. With "All City" they just mad the Rolling Stone "Top 50 albums of 2004" i.e. the other posters with 0 ratings are f**king idiots. They need to go back to smoking meth and shut the hell up. Don't listen to them - listen to the critics - they have a unified voice. Northern State are for real and are the freshest thing to happen to rap since Eminem. Full Review »
