As a longtime Pretenders fan having bought their first LP back in the day, I was sorely disappointed by this release. The songs are a bizarre mix of nostalgic ripoffs and mediocre singing by Chrissie. There are maybe 3 songs worth listening to and they are all instantly forgettable. I'm sad to say it's time for her to hang it up.

Alone's as good a Pretenders record as has been made. [No. 137, p.59]

The songs throughout Alone may rebel with their quiet solitude and reflection, but that’s a quality worth exploring when solo albums intervene and collaborators return.

This is primal, bluesy and as in-your-face as the clenched fist on the sleeve. At 65, it’s a brave change of direction.
