This is their most innovative effort up to this day. It's definitely an album which requires the listener to fully concentrate while listening.

Amo is a very different album for BMTH. The metalcore fans probably won't like it, but if you're a fan of That's the Spirit, there's a lot to enjoy. For the most part, it's pop rock / electronic rock (Medicine, Mother Tongue, In the Dark), but occasionally electropop (Nihilist Blues) and alternative rock (Mantra, Heavy Metal). So yes, it's many different genres, which is good because it gives the album a very diverse feeling, but also, that's probably the biggest flaw of Amo: it's inconsistent. For example, a really heavy song, Wonderful Life, is followed by an electronic interlude, Ouch, and for some people, myself included, it may sound too weird. While I do find the record somewhat disappointing, being a huge fan of Sempiternal, I have to admit that it's also very interesting. The more you listen to it, the more you like it, so I fully recommend it. Expand

I think this album will really divide opinion between BMTH fans though, because it is a great departure from their big old-school hits like Chelsea Smile. But there are still some classic BMTH moments scattered here and there on here, especially moments in Wonderful Life. There are tracks I don't like, like Fresh Bruises, but overall I think the album does a great job at diversifying sound to stay fresh and bringing quite an epic feel to tracks like the opener and subsequent MANTRA, and the closer especially. Solid album from one of my favourite bands that, while not as good as Sempiternal and TTS in my opinion, is really worth the listen for BMTH or general alt-rock fans. These sorts of incorporations of other styles really could be the future of the genre, as shown by other recent albums like Fever 333's new album, so this could really be a preview into the future of alt-rock in general. Some fierce, dark, and some other cute. Perfectly depicts what amo really is, in some point of view. All tracks combined aren't quite pleasant to hear if chronologically played according to the track list, as they exist in different worlds. They're not connected to each other.

Surprisingly, quite good. I didn't care much for the singles leading up to this album. I wasn't anticipating much. I love their electronic experimentation here; though, I feel it was much better done than on That's the Spirit. Songs like I Apologise If You Feel Something, Ouch, and Fresh Bruises are quite incredible, and I'd love to see them capitalize on this ideas and sounds on a future album. Unfortunately, like the last album, it just has some overall cringy moments that can't be overlooked and the nu-metal tracks just need to go. There's no real reason for them to exist on this album. It is definitely a step forward and in the right direction compared to That's the Spirit, but there's still some room left for improvement. But, please, next time give us a full electronic/future garage-ish album. I think it would be sick seeing as they do have the talent to pull it off on several tracks on here. Expand

Six albums and all different and unique in their sound and style. They reinvented themselves and evolved for the sixth time and published another masterpiece. The boyz from Sheffield don't miss a shot. We see that in this album the guys want to experiment a little bit in more electronic way and they do that damn well. "I Apologise If You Feel Something" is a classic opening song of bmth but only more eletronic than usual. "Mantra" instead will become a rock anthem and there's a lot of Jane's Addictions influence. "Nihilist Blues" is the highlight of the album embellished by the voice of Grimes. This will be one of the most beautiful songs of the year. "In the Dark" is a beautiful song very Red Hot but also a little One Direction but we forgive them for this. "Wonderful Life" instead is an A** F*** great song with the cool feat. by Dani Flith. It will become the favorite song of the old fans. Performed impeccable vocally and lyrically with a sound built around that makes it a BOMBTRACK. "Ouch" is a well performed eletronic piece that winks an eye in the drum'n'bass direction. "Medicine" is built to conquer the charts and one of the most pop moments of the album. "Sugar Honey Ice & Tea" is very cool, nice and a listenable song very intriguing and catchy, it will conquer you. "Why You Gotta Kick Me When I'm Down?" is a very very experimental song, not for everyone. "Fresh Bruises" and "Mother Tongue" are the Achilles tendon of this record. "Heavy Metal" makes you love Bmth again. It's fresh, catchy & big F*** Y** you to all people who say they're selling. "I do not know what to say" it's a classic bmth closing track but only more rock and psychadellic than the opentrack. The track is also a beautiful dedication to their friend Tom Searle of Architects.
This album is a proof that they can do what they want and get away with it.

Since I listen to a wide range of musical genres, it happened so often to find myself in front of a senseless musical turn aimed only at wanting to break through the walls of pop without taking into account the fall in style, incoherence and in the bad effect generated by the need for to spit out some catchy radio friendly songs to spend the summer. This is not the case with BMTHs, which once again prove to be one of the most artistically mature bands of modern musical panorama: the EDM-robotic sound on this workpiece is consistent, current, believable and the band's personal imprint is breathed on every track of the album. it's the perfect piece of a consistent evolutionary path from the beginning to the present. First album I've gotten really excited about this year. I haven't really listened to a full album of these guys since Sempiteral, but I don't think this is really too much of a departure from that. The people that hate this album probably hated that one. Oliver breaks down his past relationships (either romantic or with drugs) and his recent ones in some powerful lyrics, he mentioned once he likes to tell things he really been through on his songs, since Sempiternal a cicle was started both on his personal and musical life and amo is the end of this cicle. I believe Oliver has now surpassed the phase of talking about his pastOliver breaks down his past relationships (either romantic or with drugs) and his recent ones in some powerful lyrics, he mentioned once he likes to tell things he really been through on his songs, since Sempiternal a cicle was started both on his personal and musical life and amo is the end of this cicle. I believe Oliver has now surpassed the phase of talking about his past relantionships after amo and on the album we can catch some of what's still to come in songs like mother tongue, with a more optimistic view of life and love. On the musical aspect of things, the album is a rollercoaster and it's a good thing. The band has been trying to cut it's ties with the post hardcore genre since That's The Spirit and with amo they finally acomplished that with a mix of guitars and EDM beats that resembles some of the later works of Linkin Park. Jordan Fish who co-produced the album with Sykes has been bringing this style to the band repertoire since he joined them. His connection with Oliver seemed right from the beginning but i think that only now 6 years after he joined the band they really found themselves on the same page. On the instrumental side of things, Malia comes back with some astonishing solos and with bass more present then ever on the band's DNA Kean and Nicholls papers intensifies, all of them play their respective parts flawlessly. On the vocal side of things Oliver comes back even stronger then he did on That's the Spirit, in an interview with Annie Mac for BBC Radio 1 he said that after rehab he thought it was time to come back and learn how to actually sing and we can clearly see this through the entire album. even with the change of style amo still manages to feel dark , specially lyrically wise, depression, loss and heartbreaks are a constant theme on several songs and if you think it isn't heavy enough the band prepared a great response for you on one of the album tracks "heavy metal". Bring Me the Horizon is back and once again better than last time, doing what bands with similar backgrounds have never done before, taking risks and reaching their personal musical goals. Expand

I was wondering, how they can combine it all together. And it was really simple - just to make all the music electronical with auto-tune. Everyone loved "Mantra", but everyone said that "mother tongue" is disguisting. I think that they are all something specific, but really worthy. First of all i think it's very brave for this band to make such an album. Even though i do like the older stuff a bit more, i tried to look at the album with an open mind and just criticize it on the music and leave my personal opinion as far as possible away from it.

INSTRUMENTAL: The instrumentals on the album are very experimental and really gives a comfortable drive to the songs.

INSTRUMENTAL: The instrumentals on the album are very experimental and really gives a comfortable drive to the songs. Sometimes i do miss the pure sound of the guitar in some songs ( i don't mean it has to be heavy, i just miss the pure sound of the guitars here and there). The drums did a really good job in combining the electronics and acoustic elements.

VOCAL: Even though it's too obviously edited, the vocals really took me, but also sometimes i was missing the emotional drive in Oli's voice. (Again i do not mean he has to sing heavy), even though his vocals in the scream part of "Why you gotta kick me when i'm down" are amazing!

LYRICS: For every BMTH album so far the main reason why i listen to the band. And the lyrics do get better and better, even though the sound is getting less alternative.

FAVORITES: Mantra, Wonderful Life, Why you gotta kick me when i'm down.
    LEAST FAVORITES: Medicine, Mother Tongue

POSITIVE SIDES: Experimental, Well written, Great harmony between the instruments.SOME songs were approached very original.
NEGATIVE SIDES: Some songs are a bit too repetitive and doesn't need to be 4/5 minutes, SOME songs a bit too generic and less original.

    PEACE.

I really like the voice and the record of the lead singer on this one, it's clean and recognisable. The bad things are that sometime they are overdoing it with the beats and electronic bits. Also the middle part of the record sometimes just sounds like a Fall Out Boy or Green day record from the 00s.
Also I didn't really care about the squeaky voice on one of the tracks and the beatboxing bit was also very strange. I hope the band goes more in this way in the future and I will give them a 8 for potential.
