Some of the work Power did as one half of Fuck Buttons matched the grandiosity of this record's melodies, but did so with emotional resonance. But with the sense of plastic emptiness so ever-present, Animated Violence Mild too directly mirrors the very thing it's critiquing.

Respite is infrequent with Blanck Mass, but when it arrives, its effects are heightened. [Sep 2019, p.91]

Despite the pluming black-metal geyser of Death Drop, it doesn't have the evil heft of 2017 predecessor World Eater. [Sep 2019, p.108]

Nice album, expanded his sound even further. This release is more dance rock oriented, as proven by House vs. House" and "No Dice". The soundNice album, expanded his sound even further. This release is more dance rock oriented, as proven by House vs. House" and "No Dice". The sound of old is mixed in, with the harsh vocals of opener "Death Drop" and perhaps the best mix of all ingredients on "Love Is a Parasite". This proves that Blanck Mass could he accessible dance music if he wanted to, but he obviously has no interest in that as each song is more of a sonic experiment (thankfully). The album ends in "Wings of Hate", which sounds like Beethoven cut up into tiny pieces and programmed into the 21st century. A Joy to listen to or just put on in the background. Full Review »
