It's a more consistent album than its predecessor. And perhaps more importantly, it shores up the duo's country flanks, and demonstrates that FGL intends to aggressively protect its progressive place in the genre, one that the act essentially designed on its own.

Florida Georgia Line is a literal breeze, with songs that land like feathers. Anything Goes doesn’t pack quite the raw shock of that duo’s 2012 debut album, “Here’s to the Good Times.”

If Florida Georgia Line feel anonymous, that's not a bug: by design, they're playing to the largest possible audience, so nobody should be surprised that Anything Goes is so broad it avoids such messiness as personality.

Kelley and Hubbard are genial enough hosts but the preponderance of monochromatic, midtempo tracks--occasionally featuring awkward, rapid fire rap-sung interludes--blend into an indistinguishable blur that may be sufficient while the party lasts but aren’t as memorable after the buzz wears off.
