    It is beautiful and bereft and hard to listen to with easy joy--as are much of the best of these essential recordings.

    This live CD shows all of her brilliance and promise, her command and vitality, and much of that is shown on the videos as well.

    The erosion of control is palpable as the show progresses, though it's hard to tell whether it's due to damage or just boredom.

    The versions of Winehouse's repertoire that turn up on At the BBC's audio disc, though, are almost all sloppier than their studio counterparts, and she rarely manages to reveal anything we didn't already know about her songs.
