The sound on Baptized somehow links U2 to Rascal Flatts, adding Springsteen stances in "Wild Heart." More unexpectedly, there's also a banjo shuffle.

It [his voice] wants badly to roar but is given almost no opportunity to here apart from the savage “Traitor.” And so mostly, Mr. Daughtry is a caged animal on this album.

At times, the change is refreshing, yet too often he seems to think the world needs more songs evoking Train or Lifehouse.

It's distinctive edge lends itself well to harder rock type music, and his debut showed great promise, which makes listening to this bland, generic amalgamation of Maroon 5 and Matchbox 20 reject tunes nothing but a disappointment. Each song blends with the last, with cheesy lyrics, overuse of Auto-Tune, and a complete lack of anything resembling sonic creativity. Back to the drawing board for Daughtry, in my opinion. The pop sound doesn't suit every band and it's not necessary to make all the pop songs on an album. Their debut album was so, so good and that was the genuine Chris Daughtry sound. Baptized just sounds like they're trying so hard to be someone else. They don't want to be post-grunge band anymore. It sucks! Every rock band is going into pop sound and the worse thing is most of them suck at it. There's repetition, boring sounds, stupid lyrics and pretentious music. Stay away from it. Save your money. Ok. First off, I think most of the professional "critics" are over thinking it and have no clue what they are talking about. This is easilyOk. First off, I think most of the professional "critics" are over thinking it and have no clue what they are talking about. This is easily his best overall work to date. A different sound that what you may be used to from him but a welcome change. Great, fun, and catchy music. And as always his voice is still one of the best in the business. Full Review »
