  1. Uncut
    Apr 28, 2014
An entirely ravishing aesthetic experience. [Jun 2014, p.76]
  2. Apr 28, 2014
The loving layers of static, submerged guitar progressions, and effortless meshes of naturalistic themes and glitchy processing all play into a language of sound distinct to Fennesz and reaching some of their clearest articulations here.
  3. Apr 28, 2014
With Bécs, Fennesz achieves the near-impossible, crafting a musical sequel that retains the energy, vision and flow of its predecessor.
  4. Mojo
    Jul 24, 2014
The soundtrack to blissful bucolic afternoons threatened by the black clouds of the coming apocalypse. [Jul 2014, p.95]
  5. The Wire
    Jul 17, 2014
Becs is something of a return, then, but equally it demonstrates that the guitarist's approach to pop composition has developed considerably over the past 13 years. [May 2014, p.83]
  6. Jun 24, 2014
It captivates and betrays the listener who, unaware of the deceitful plan, falls victim of the most heinous crime in art: representation through deconstruction.
  7. Jun 4, 2014
Musically, it's painfully simple; sonically, it's painfully complex.
  8. 80
Bécs is seldom unapproachable; it’s also his style to leave just enough beauty poking through the seams.
  9. Apr 29, 2014
At points, listening to Bécs is to hear gauze become gossamer, and feel it too.
  10. Apr 30, 2014
The relative warmth and light here gives the music a nostalgic cast, which was at the heart of what made Endless Summer so memorable, but Bécs also possesses an added layer that doesn’t necessarily work in its favor. Fennesz once illuminated the beauty of a digitally scrambled memory, but Bécs is a memory of a digitally scrambled memory.
  11. Apr 28, 2014
There aren't many artists who can deconstruct and rebuild such interesting tracks equally based on both disturbing and exquisite soundscapes, yet Fennesz continues his winning streak.

This album is kinda beautiful but not enough. It is mostly made of sharp harsh sounds that have been smoothed over during production. The mostThis album is kinda beautiful but not enough. It is mostly made of sharp harsh sounds that have been smoothed over during production. The most colourful and pretty track of the album is the title track, Bécs. It is similarly harsh, though, it has a nicer chord progression that adds more character to it. I probably wouldn't bother telling anyone about this album unless someone was looking for something unusual that's not typical to their taste. Kinda dystopian sounding. Full Review »
