Lack of inspiration, energy and intentions, Scott Weiland give us a weak album in which songs like “20th Century Boy”, "Parachutes" or “White Lightning” are the the most enjoyable ones.

Blaster has some solid rock tunes within, and Weiland does a serviceable job throughout, but compared to his work in STP and VR, it lacks in replay value; this is because the melodies and musicianship do not innovate, and whilst there is nothing necessarily wrong with the vocals, they don't convey quite as much passion and energy; clearly he was going through a lot of personal turmoil:Blaster has some solid rock tunes within, and Weiland does a serviceable job throughout, but compared to his work in STP and VR, it lacks in replay value; this is because the melodies and musicianship do not innovate, and whilst there is nothing necessarily wrong with the vocals, they don't convey quite as much passion and energy; clearly he was going through a lot of personal turmoil: financial issues, drinking etc. Expand

Despite his heavy pedigree, the poppier songs are some of the best here, the only blot being an honourable but lacklustre run through 20th Century Boy.

On most of Blaster, Weiland's first all-new solo album since 2008, he suffers from a bad case of Generic Rock Voice.

As a way of rehabilitating his reputation, this is certainly a solid start. [28 Mar 2015, p.54]
