The Donkeys' debut album was impressive enough, but there;s even more to admire in this fine follow-up. [Jul 2011, p.80]

The album as a whole, however, is more than reasonably enjoyable. While still by its nature loosely strung and carefree, Born with Stripes demands your attention in a way that Living on the Other Side never did.

Just another chilled, spaghetti western-atmospheric SoCal indie rock venture then? Glad to hear it, keep 'em coming.

Born with Stripes, is a quietly enjoyable listen, something where emotions get expressed with often restrained energy--but, crucially, never lacking that core energy to start with.

Though they'd likely see a frighteningly short life span in a place like Brooklyn, this music remains endearing for reasons that have little to do with their record collections. Intangibles.

With no clear-cut standout like "Nice Train" or "Dolphin Center," the record fights to find its footing on slacker-rock ground and never quite gets there.

A great follow-up for the Donkey's. Songs shuffle along and sing with hooks. It is nice to see a band making music that sounds fresh despiteA great follow-up for the Donkey's. Songs shuffle along and sing with hooks. It is nice to see a band making music that sounds fresh despite the fact that the influences are worn right on the sleeve. It seems like the band wrote in a more rock style for this album. The last album (Living on the Other Side) was a bit more laid back but this one isn't afraid to rock out a little bit. Truth is that I'm never sure what these songs lyrics are about but that doesn't really matter because the catchy hum-able style is prefect. Expand
