  1. This is a marching band that’s veered way out of formation, and is making utterly original music.
  2. Earnest and joyful throughout, they don't make records like this anymore, so be glad Anathallo didn't listen and made one anyway.
  3. Canopy Glow sees the band returning to a more straightforward pop format--as straightforward as a band with a penchant for the theatrical may ever get--with successful results.
  4. Although the material could certainly stand on its own without all of its dressings, Canopy Glow is a more complete, dynamic experiment because of them.

Not limiting their lyrical or instrumental content, the songs never feel ostentatious or forced. [Holiday 2008, p.106]
  6. this album is never less than interesting. It’s just that with but a touch of discipline, they could create something truly magical.
  7. Canopy Glow can pass you by on first listen, but persevere and memorable moments do emerge.
  8. True, the band has dialed back this tendency in comparison to Floating World, but the music on their latest still feels like a band struggling to edit themselves. However, there are some genuinely successful moments on Canopy Glow that play to Anathallo’s strengths.
  9. The unnatural and unnerving smoothness of Canopy Glow shows that if there was any one Anticon record that deserved to be called Alopecia, it's this one.
  10. Overall the sound is deadened by indecisive production that tries to highlight everything at once. The heights don’t sound as high as they should. [Year End 2008]
  11. There are some amazing moments on this record; it's a crying shame that they're linked with the sound of a band treading water.

Fantastic album. A few listens only scratches the surface of the music that Anthallo have created and this might dissuade impatient listeners. However, for those with the time on their hands will find a very deep, touching music created by these amazing musicians. Best album I have heard in a longtime. Full Review »

Anathallo continued to produce great music with its newest album "Canopy Glow". Songs such as John J. Audobahn and Northern Lights are arguably some of the best tracks they have ever written. This album shared my "Album of the Year" honors with Good Old War. Full Review »

Amazing follow up from an amazing band. I don't understand all the comparisons to Sufjan Stevens. I love his music as well but where he is precise and controlled, almost robotic, Anathollo is free and daring. Full Review »
